Stradbally GAA (Laois)
Stradbally GAA is a Gaelic football club in Stradbally, County Laois, Ireland. The club was founded in 1889 and its colours are green and white. The club grounds are called Bill Delaney Park after one of the club's most famous sons. Stradbally GAA Club has won 17 Laois Senior Football Championship titles and numerous other titles at junior, intermediate and underage grades. After 18 years in existence the championship of 1905 was won when the team defeated Raheenabrogue by 1-4 to 0-3 at Portlaoise on 21 January 1906. 2016 Stradbally bet Portlaoise in the county championship final and stopped their 10 in a row with a last minute goal. Bill Delaney
Bill Delaney (11 June 1915 – 2000) was a famous Gaelic footballer from Laois. His death at the age of 85 in July 2000 reminded of a decades-long career in the GAA as a player, referee and administrator. Career From a famous footballing family he played Gaelic football at club, county and provincial level during the 1930s and 1940s and was regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time. Delaney played for Laois in the All-Ireland Minor Football Championship final of 1932 and when he made his senior debut at the age of 18 the following year he commenced an inter-county career that saw him play in 18 successive championships. Greg Ramsbottom
Greg Ramsbottom is a Gaelic football player from County Laois in Ireland. He began his juvenile club career with Park/Ratheniska but he currently plays his club football for Stradbally and is also a member of the Laois senior team. He was part of the Laois under-21 side that won the Leinster title and were eventual All-Ireland runners up in 1998 and was unfortunate to lose out on a Leinster Minor Football Championship medal in 1995 when it took three games to separate the O’Moore County and eventual All-Ireland Minor Football Championship winners Westmeath. The Laois All-County Football League (ACFL) is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by Laois GAA clubs. There are seven divisions and teams are promoted and relegated according to their league standing each year. Prior to the inception of the All-County Football League, league competitions titled the Senior Football League, Intermediate Football League and Junior Football League were in place. These would have roughly equated to the current top three or four divisions in the ACFL. Laois Intermediate Football Championship
The Laois Intermediate Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by mid-tier Laois GAA clubs. The Laois County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1907. The Heath are the title holders (2022) defeating Arles–Kilcruise in the Final. Format The Intermediate Championship has a 'back door' and operates similarly to the Senior Championship (and Junior Championship C only) by going for a straight knockout but the 'back door' is in place for anyone losing out. 2016 Laois Senior Football Championship
The 2016 Laois Senior Football Championship is the 126th edition of the Laois GAA's premier club Gaelic football tournament for senior graded teams in County Laois, Ireland. The tournament consists of 16 teams with the winner going on to represent Laois in the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship. The championship has a back-door format for the first two rounds before proceeding to a knock-out format. Generally, any team to lose two matches will be knocked out of the championship. Portlaoise were the defending champions after they defeated Emo in the previous years final after a replay. However they lost their crown in the final this season when losing to Stradbally when a last gap goal handed them a 2-10 to 1-12 victory in O'Moore Park. Gary Kavanagh
Gary Kavanagh is a former Gaelic footballer from County Laois. He played for the Stradbally club. He usually played at wing forward for the Laois senior football team and in 2003 was part of the Laois team that won the Leinster Senior Football Championship title for the first time since 1946. Kavanagh emerged on to the inter-county GAA scene in 1997 as part of the Laois minor squad that retained the All-Ireland Minor Football Championship. In 2006, he was named as captain of the Laois senior football team but did not hold down a regular starting place on the team. Paul Begley is a Gaelic footballer from County Laois. He plays for the Stradbally club. He usually plays in defence for the Laois senior football team. Colm Begley
Colm Begley (born 31 August 1986) is an Irish Gaelic footballer from County Laois. He has also played Australian rules football for the St Kilda Football Club and the Brisbane Lions of the Australian Football League (AFL). Begley played a crucial part in Stradbally's Laois championship title win, stopping Portlaoise's bid for a 10-in-a-row title when a Jody Dillon last-minute goal beat Graham Brody, who could only watch with disbelief.
