Paul Begley
Paul Begley is a Gaelic footballer from County Laois. He plays for the Stradbally club. He usually plays in defence for the Laois senior football team. He went on to play for the Laois Under 21 team in 2002, 2003 and 2004 before earning a call up to the senior squad for the 2005 National Football League campaign He won two Under 21 titles with Stradbally Parish Gaels and in 2005 was a prominent player as Stradbally won the Laois Senior Football Championship. Stradbally GAA (Laois)
Stradbally GAA is a Gaelic football club in Stradbally, County Laois, Ireland. The club was founded in 1889 and its colours are green and white. The club grounds are called Bill Delaney Park after one of the club's most famous sons. Stradbally GAA Club has won 17 Laois Senior Football Championship titles and numerous other titles at junior, intermediate and underage grades. After 18 years in existence the championship of 1905 was won when the team defeated Raheenabrogue by 1-4 to 0-3 at Portlaoise on 21 January 1906. 2016 Stradbally bet Portlaoise in the county championship final and stopped their 10 in a row with a last minute goal. The Laois County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Luthchleas Gael Coiste Laois) or Laois GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Laois. The county board is also responsible for the Laois county teams. The county football team contested the second ever All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC) final in 1889. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). The Laois Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by top-tier Laois GAA clubs. The Laois County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1888. Portarlington are the title holders (2022) defeating O'Dempsey's in the Final. Brisbane Lions
The Brisbane Lions is a professional Australian rules football club based in Brisbane, Queensland, that plays in the Australian Football League (AFL). The club was formed in late 1996 via a merger of the Melbourne-based 1883 foundation VFL club the Fitzroy Lions, and the 1987 Queensland based expansion club the Brisbane Bears, with the colours of maroon, blue, and gold being drawn from both parent clubs. Colm Begley
Colm Begley (born 31 August 1986) is an Irish Gaelic footballer from County Laois. He has also played Australian rules football for the St Kilda Football Club and the Brisbane Lions of the Australian Football League (AFL). Begley played a crucial part in Stradbally's Laois championship title win, stopping Portlaoise's bid for a 10-in-a-row title when a Jody Dillon last-minute goal beat Graham Brody, who could only watch with disbelief.
