STOWA is a German luxury watchmaker founded by Walter Storz in 1927 and is based in Engelsbrand, Germany. The name is a portmanteau of the founder's name, Storz Walter. From 1996 until 2021, STOWA was by Jörg Schauer, who also owns the Schauer watch brand and the DUROWE watch movement brand. July 1, 2021, Stowa became part of Tempus Arte GmbH & Co. Laco Watch Manufacture
Laco Uhrenmanufaktur GmbH (or Lacher & Co) is a German watch manufacturer, founded in 1925 in Pforzheim by Frieda Lacher and Ludwig Hummel under the name Lacher & Co. History The company name derives from the surname Lacher and the abbreviation Co. At the company’s time of establishment in the mid 1920s, many other watch manufacturers in Pforzheim used almost exclusively Swiss movements. These movements were delivered either completely or in parts. Factory workers in the companies assembled the individual parts. In this way, they could save the customs duties. Although the company had started successfully, after several years, the founders decided to go their separate ways. Hummel (*26 July 1889) stayed in the original company, the watch factory Laco, whereas Frieda Lacher joined the precision parts production for wristwatches. Engelsbrand
Engelsbrand is a municipality in the district of Enz (district), Enz in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is home to the luxury watchmaker Stowa. It contains the villages of Engelsbrand, Salmbach, and Grunbach. History The three villages of Engelsbrand, Salmbach, and Grunbach were founded in the 11th or 12th centuries ''Waldhufendorf'' as part of the settling of the area around Hirsau Abbey. The first documentation of the communities occurred on 24 July 1404, when canons from Brötzingen requested the separation of several villages, including the Engelsbrand three, from Brötzingen for the formation of a new parish in Langenbrand. Pforzheim () is a city of over 125,000 inhabitants in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg, in the southwest of Germany. It is known for its jewelry and watch-making industry, and as such has gained the nickname "Goldstadt" ("Golden City"). A pocket watch (or pocketwatch) is a watch that is made to be carried in a pocket, as opposed to a watch, wristwatch, which is strapped to the wrist. They were the most common type of watch from their development in the 16th century until wristwatches became popular after World War I during which a transitional design, trench watches, were used by the military. Pocket watches generally have an attached chain to allow them to be secured to a waistcoat, lapel, or belt (clothing), belt loop, and to prevent them from being dropped. Watches were also mounted on a short leather strap or fob, when a long chain would have been cumbersome or likely to catch on things.
