State Treasurer Of Alabama
The Alabama State Treasurer acts as the head banker for the State of Alabama, handling deposits, withdrawals, redemptions of state warrants and investments of state funds. The position was created in 1819 when Alabama became a state. Its constitution established the Office of the Treasurer of State, a position that would be elected by the legislature. Individuals serving as state treasurer were elected annually by the General Assembly from 1819 to 1861. Beginning in 1861, the treasurer was elected biennially from until 1868 and was elected by popular vote for a term of two years in 1868. Arthur Bingham's election in 1868 marked the first time a Republican would hold the office. Kay Ivey in 2002 would become the second Republican to hold the office. The treasurer began to be elected to a four-year term as a result of the 1901 Constitution but could not serve successive terms until a 1968 amendment. Young Jacob Boozer III (born November 23, 1948) is an American politician who served as the 39th State Treasurer of Alabama from 2011 to 2019. He was elected to his first four-year term on November 2, 2010, and was unopposed and reelected for a second term on November 4, 2014. He left office on January 14, 2019. As State Treasurer, Boozer played a role in managing the Alabama Trust Fund (ATF). Boozer led the effort to restructure and save the Alabama Prepaid Affordable College Tuition Program (PACT). Melba Till Allen
Melba Till Allen (March 3, 1933 – October 20, 1989) was an American politician who served as the Auditor of Alabama from 1967 to 1975 and as the Treasurer of Alabama from 1975 to 1978. Allen (D) was convicted in 1978 of using her office to obtain favorable bank loans for several personal businesses including a religious theme park. She failed to disclose these business ventures and a full disclosure of her personal finances. She was sentenced to six years in jail and three and a half years of probation. She died of cancer on October 20, 1989, in Montgomery, Alabama Montgomery is the capital city of the U.S. state of Alabama and the county seat of Montgomery County. Sibyl Pool
Sibyl Murphree Pool (1901–1973) was a politician from Alabama. She was first appointed as the Secretary of State of Alabama in 1944 following the resignation of David Howell Turner. In 1950, she was elected Alabama State Treasurer and served until 1955. Pool was born in 1901 in York, Alabama. She graduated from Alabama State College for Women, now known as the University of Montevallo. She then went on to attend the Livingston State Teacher's College. William Barnett Allgood (April 5, 1868 – July 18, 1933) was a government official in Alabama, serving as the State Auditor of Alabama from 1923 to 1927 and Alabama State Treasurer from 1927 to 1932. Early life William Barnett Allgood was born on April 5, 1868 in the town of Allgood (then named Chepultepec) in Blount County, Alabama.
