Spyrou Kyprianou Avenue
Spyrou Kyprianou Avenue ( el, Λεωφόρος Σπύρου Κυπριανού, tr, Spiru Kiprianu Caddesi), is an important avenue located in the centre of Nicosia, Cyprus formerly known as Santa Rosa Avenue . The Avenue was named after Spyros Kyprianou ( el, Σπύρος Κυπριανού), a former president of the Republic of Cyprus. It intersects Makariou Anevue and it hosts a number of highrises, Banks and financial and corporate services companies. Nicosia ( ; el, Λευκωσία, Lefkosía ; tr, Lefkoşa ; hy, Նիկոսիա, romanized: ''Nikosia''; Cypriot Arabic: Nikusiya) is the largest city, capital, and seat of government of Cyprus. Spyros Kyprianou
Spyros Achilleos Kyprianou ( el, Σπύρος Κυπριανού; 28 October 1932 – 12 March 2002) was one of the most prominent politicians and barristers of modern Cyprus. He served as the second president of Cyprus from 1977 to 1988. Spyrou Kyprianou Avenue ( el, Λεωφόρος Σπύρου Κυπριανού) in Nicosia was named after him posthumously. Early life and education Kyprianou was born in Limassol in 1932. He studied Economics and Commerce at the City of London College and law at Gray΄s Inn. He also studied comparative law, receiving a diploma. Political career During the time he spent in London as a student, Kyprianou founded the National Union of Cypriot Students in England (E.F.E.K.A.) of which he was the first President. Makarios Avenue ( el, Λεωφόρος Αρχιεπισκόπου Μακαρίου Γ') is an avenue in the centre of Nicosia, Cyprus which covers a distance of . The Street starts from the Junction of Evagoras Avenue until Aglandjia Avenue and is named after the first President of Cyprus Archbishop Makarios III. In Colonial times Makarios Avenue was named Pluto Street. and was the main route to Limassol, it was lined with residential buildings such as the Lyssiotis Mansion built in 1928 and is now the Head Office of the National Bank of Greece in Cyprus. The area has been transformed into a commercial district with many of the original buildings demolished to make way for shops and office blocks. Electricity Authority Of Cyprus
The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) (Greek: ''Αρχή Ηλεκτρισμού Κύπρου (ΑΗΚ)'') was founded in 1952 by the British colonial government. The 28 private electricity companies of the time were nationalized and absorbed into the EAC. The Authority never received any subsidies from the government as these have always been prohibited by law. Its head office is located in Strovolos. The EAC currently holds a near monopoly on electricity generation in Cyprus.
