Smirnenski Point
Smirnenski Point ( bg, нос Смирненски, ‘Nos Smirnenski’ \'nos 'smir-nen-ski\) is a narrow, ice-free point on the east coast of Robert Island projecting 1.1 km into Nelson Strait in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica, and forming the northwest side of the entrance to Garnya Cove. It is situated 1.2 km northwest of Perelik Point, 4.4 km north-northwest of Batuliya Point, 1.42 km east of Treklyano Island, 4.7 km east of Ugarchin Point and 8.11 km southeast of Newell Point. Antarctic Place-names Commission
The Antarctic Place-names Commission was established by the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute in 1994, and since 2001 has been a body affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria. The Commission approves Bulgarian place names in Antarctica, which are formally given by the President of the Republic according to the Bulgarian Constitution (Art. 98) and the established international practice. Bulgarian names in Antarctica Geographical names in Antarctica reflect the history and practice of Antarctic exploration. The Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) is an interdisciplinary body of the International Science Council (ISC). SCAR coordinates international scientific research efforts in Antarctica, including the Southern Ocean. SCAR's scientific work is administered through several discipline-themed ''science groups''. Hristo Dimitrov Izmirliev ( bg, Христо Димитров Измирлиев), known as Hristo Smirnenski, (September 17, 1898, OS – June 18, 1923) was a Bulgarian poet and prose writer who joined the Bulgarian Communist Party and whose works championed socialist ideals in a light-hearted and humane style. Newell Point
Newell Point is the rocky point forming the northeast extremity of Robert Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica and is a northwest entrance point of Nelson Strait. The feature originally charted and named 'Newell Point' by Discovery Investigations personnel in 1935 was probably the north extremity of the nearby Tatul Island, the latter only becoming detached from Robert Island as a result of glacier retreat in the late 20th and early 21st century. Batuliya Point ( bg, нос Батулия, ‘Nos Batuliya’ \'nos ba-'tu-li-ya\) is an ice-free tipped point forming the east extremity of Robert Island and the south side of the entrance to Tsepina Cove in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. The point, projecting 550 m into Bransfield Strait, is situated 5.4 km northeast of the southeast extremity of Robert Point, 3 km north-northeast of Sadala Point, and 1.9 km south (and a trifle to the east) of Kitchen Point.
