Ugarchin Point ( bg, нос Угърчин, ‘Nos Ugarchin’ \'nos u-g&r-'chin\) is a point on the northeast coast of Robert Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica projecting 300 m into Nelson Strait. Named after the town of Ugarchin in northern Bulgaria. Robert Island (South Shetland Islands)
Robert Island or Mitchells Island or Polotsk Island or Roberts Island is an island long and wide, situated between Nelson Island and Greenwich Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. Robert Island is located at . Surface area . The name "Robert Island" dates back to around 1821 and is now established in international usage. Much of the Coppermine Peninsula in the west of the island is made up by a perched strandflat surface that was in past at sea level. Captain Richard Fildes may have named Robert Island for his brig . Fildes was sealing in the South Shetlands in 1821–1822 until ice destroyed his vessel in March 1822. Fildes Strait is named for him. South Shetland Islands
The South Shetland Islands are a group of Antarctic islands with a total area of . They lie about north of the Antarctic Peninsula, and between southwest of the nearest point of the South Orkney Islands. By the Antarctic Treaty of 1959, the islands' sovereignty is neither recognized nor disputed by the signatories and they are free for use by any signatory for non-military purposes. The islands have been claimed by the United Kingdom since 1908 and as part of the British Antarctic Territory since 1962. Nelson Strait (South Shetland Islands)
Nelson Strait is the 9 km long and 9.8 km wide strait lying between Robert Island and Nelson Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. The strait was explored by early 19th century sealers and first charted by Nathaniel Palmer in 1821. While it had a variety of different names in the past (‘Harmony Strait’, ‘King George’s Strait’, ‘Parry’s Straits’, Davis's Straits’, ‘Détroit de Clothier’ etc.), the present name — probably taken from the adjacent Nelson Island — has become well established in international usage. Ugarchin
Ugarchin ( bg, Угърчин ) is a town located along the Kamenitsa river in the Lovech Province in central northern Bulgaria. It is the administrative centre of the homonymous Ugarchin Municipality. The town is about 30 kilometers away in the west from the main centre of the province - Lovech. As of December 2009, it had a population of 2,832 inhabitants which sunk to 2,354 by end of 2018. Ugarchin is situated in the northern part of the Balkan Mountains at the foot the high peaks and down the river Kamenitsa and its minor tributaries: Lepetora, Sveta, Greshki Dol and others. Smirnenski Point ( bg, нос Смирненски, ‘Nos Smirnenski’ \'nos 'smir-nen-ski\) is a narrow, ice-free point on the east coast of Robert Island projecting 1.1 km into Nelson Strait in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica, and forming the northwest side of the entrance to Garnya Cove. Newell Point
Newell Point is the rocky point forming the northeast extremity of Robert Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica and is a northwest entrance point of Nelson Strait. The feature originally charted and named 'Newell Point' by Discovery Investigations personnel in 1935 was probably the north extremity of the nearby Tatul Island, the latter only becoming detached from Robert Island as a result of glacier retreat in the late 20th and early 21st century.
