Smiley (musician)
Tavis Scoot (born December 18, 1980 in Aruba), better known as Smiley, is a reggae artist. He has been making music since he was seventeen years old. He moved to the Netherlands in 2000. For three years he toured with the popular Dutch reggae band, Out of Many. Early years Smiley has performed at several festivals and venues in Europe and Aruba. He has also been the support act of reggae artist Ziggi Recado on his Dutch and German 'In Transit' tour. In 2008 Smiley travelled to Jamaica to work with Barry ‘o Hare and Altafaan Records. Smiley also collaborated with Junior Kelly. The video of the track called "Dem a Wonder" has been aired by Reggae Entertainment Television, Tempo TV and TMF Pure. It also enjoyed rotation on the reggae radio station Irie FM in Jamaica. On November 20, 2009, Smiley's song "Distance" was released on the Tek "a” Train riddim selection of the German reggae label Rootdown Records. Reggae () is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s. The term also denotes the modern popular music of Jamaica and its diaspora. A 1968 single by Toots and the Maytals, "Do the Reggay" was the first popular song to use the word "reggae", effectively naming the genre and introducing it to a global audience. Tippa Irie (born Anthony Henry, 1965, London, England) is a British reggae singer and DJ from Brixton, South London. He first came to prominence in the early 1980s as an MC on the South London reggae soundsystem Saxon Studio International. He first achieved national exposure on night-time BBC Radio 1 in the mid-1980s, with the singles "It's Good To Have The Feeling You're The Best" and "Complain Neighbour" (on Greensleeves Records), before achieving a UK Top 40 hit in 1986 with "Hello Darling". Riddim
Riddim is the Jamaican Patois pronunciation of the English word "rhythm". In the context of reggae and dancehall, it refers to the instrumental accompaniment to a song and is synonymous with the rhythm section. Jamaican music genres that use the term consist of the ''riddim'' plus the ''voicing'' (vocal part) sung by the deejay. The resulting song structure is distinctive in many ways. A given riddim, if popular, may be used in dozens—or even hundreds—of songs, not only in recordings but also in live performances. Since the 1970s, riddims have accompanied reggae music and through the 1980s, more widely known as dancehall. Bonaire
Bonaire (; , ; pap, Boneiru, , almost pronounced ) is a Dutch island in the Leeward Antilles in the Caribbean Sea. Its capital is the port of Kralendijk, on the west ( leeward) coast of the island. TMF Pure was a digital TV channel of MTV Networks Benelux. The channel launched together with three other digital channels of MTV Networks on 1 May 2005. This channel, TMF NL and TMF Dance were among the first digital theme channels in the Netherlands. On 1 August 2006 TMF Pure was renamed MTV Brand New. This digital channel emits, unlike TMF Pure, non-stop video clips from the alternative rock genre. Besides videos, there are also live performances on MTV Brand New.
