Simon Labrosse
Simon Labrosse (1836 – August 29, 1896) was an Ontario businessman and political figure. He represented Prescott in the House of Commons of Canada as an independent Conservative member (some sources say Liberal) from 1882 to 1891. He was born in Saint-Benoît, Lower Canada in 1836, the son of Pierre Labrosse. He married Marie Ethier in 1861. He was a merchant at St. Eugene, also serving on the council and as reeve for East Hawkesbury Township and as warden in 1874 for Prescott and Russell counties. Labrosse was also postmaster for St. Eugene from 1862 to 1882. He ran unsuccessfully against Albert Hagar Albert Hagar (January 1, 1827 – September 14, 1924) was a Canadian merchant and politician. Prescott was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1953. It was located in the province of Ontario. It was created by the British North America Act of 1867, and consisted of the County of Prescott. The electoral district was abolished in 1952 when it was merged into Glengarry—Prescott riding. The House of Commons of Canada (french: Chambre des communes du Canada) is the lower house of the Parliament of Canada. Together with the Crown and the Senate of Canada, they comprise the bicameral legislature of Canada. The Province of Lower Canada (french: province du Bas-Canada) was a British colony on the lower Saint Lawrence River and the shores of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence (1791–1841). Albert Hagar
Albert Hagar (January 1, 1827 – September 14, 1924) was a Canadian merchant and politician. Hagar was born in North Plantagenet Township, Upper Canada (now Ontario) in 1827. He was the son of Abner Hagar, a former Montreal merchant, and Hannah P. Barker. He was educated in Vermont and became a farmer, merchant and lumber dealer and owned a sawmill and gristmill at Plantagenet. Hagar was elected to the Canadian House of Commons for the riding of Prescott in 1867. A Liberal, he was acclaimed in 1872 and re-elected in the federal election in 1874. Félix Routhier
Félix Routhier (May 21, 1827 – December 23, 1903) was an Ontario businessman and political figure. He represented Prescott in the House of Commons of Canada as a Conservative member from 1878 to 1882. He was born in Saint-Placide, Lower Canada in 1827, the son of farmer Charles Routhier. He married Angelique Lemay dit Delorme in 1849. He served as justice of the peace, major in the local militia and mayor of Saint-Placide. In 1870, he moved to Vankleek Hill, Ontario, where he took over the operation of a foundry. Routhier defeated Albert Hagar to win the Prescott seat in 1878; he was defeated by Simon Labrosse in the elections that followed in 1882 and 1887 and by Isidore Proulx in 1891. The foundry at Vankleek Hill went bankrupt in 1897. Isidore Proulx
Isidore Proulx (March 13, 1840 – July 28, 1904) was an Ontario farmer, merchant and political figure. He represented Prescott in the House of Commons of Canada, as a Liberal Party member from 1891 to 1904. Proulx was born in Saint-Hermas, Lower Canada in 1840, and he served as clerk for Saint-Hermas for 20 years. In 1861, he married Philomène Lalande. Proulx ran unsuccessfully in the riding of Deux-Montagnes for a seat in the Quebec legislative assembly in 1874. He moved to Plantagenet, Ontario in 1881, where he was a justice of the peace and served five years as reeve for North Plantagenet Township. His first election in 1891 was declared invalid after an appeal but he won the subsequent by-election.
