Félix Routhier
Félix Routhier (May 21, 1827 – December 23, 1903) was an Ontario businessman and political figure. He represented Prescott in the House of Commons of Canada as a Conservative member from 1878 to 1882. He was born in Saint-Placide, Lower Canada in 1827, the son of farmer Charles Routhier. He married Angelique Lemay dit Delorme in 1849. He served as justice of the peace, major in the local militia and mayor of Saint-Placide. In 1870, he moved to Vankleek Hill, Ontario, where he took over the operation of a foundry. Routhier defeated Albert Hagar to win the Prescott seat in 1878; he was defeated by Simon Labrosse in the elections that followed in 1882 and 1887 and by Isidore Proulx in 1891. The foundry at Vankleek Hill went bankrupt in 1897. Simon Labrosse
Simon Labrosse (1836 – August 29, 1896) was an Ontario businessman and political figure. He represented Prescott in the House of Commons of Canada as an independent Conservative member (some sources say Liberal) from 1882 to 1891. He was born in Saint-Benoît, Lower Canada in 1836, the son of Pierre Labrosse. He married Marie Ethier in 1861. He was a merchant at St. Eugene, also serving on the council and as reeve for East Hawkesbury Township and as warden in 1874 for Prescott and Russell counties. Adolphe-Basile Routhier
Sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier (May 8, 1839 – June 27, 1920) was a Canadian judge, author, and lyricist. He wrote the lyrics of the original French version of the Canadian national anthem "O Canada". He was born in Saint-Placide, Quebec, to Charles Routhier and Angélique Lafleur. Early life and education Routhier was born and grew up in Saint-Placide, Quebec, on his family's farm. He attended Séminaire de Ste-Thérèse, and later studied law at Université Laval. He graduated and was called to the Quebec bar in 1861. Career Routhier practised law in Kamouraska until he was appointed to the Quebec Superior Court in 1873 (as Chief Justice from 1904 to 1906) and Admiralty of the Exchequer Court of Canada (from 1897 to 1906). Routhier ran as a Conservative candidate for the riding of Kamouraska in several federal elections, but he was never elected. Routhier wrote a number of books under the name Jean Piquefort. Isidore Proulx
Isidore Proulx (March 13, 1840 – July 28, 1904) was an Ontario farmer, merchant and political figure. He represented Prescott in the House of Commons of Canada, as a Liberal Party member from 1891 to 1904. Proulx was born in Saint-Hermas, Lower Canada in 1840, and he served as clerk for Saint-Hermas for 20 years. In 1861, he married Philomène Lalande. Proulx ran unsuccessfully in the riding of Deux-Montagnes for a seat in the Quebec legislative assembly in 1874. He moved to Plantagenet, Ontario in 1881, where he was a justice of the peace and served five years as reeve for North Plantagenet Township. His first election in 1891 was declared invalid after an appeal but he won the subsequent by-election. Albert Hagar (January 1, 1827 – September 14, 1924) was a Canadian merchant and politician. Hagar was born in North Plantagenet Township, Upper Canada (now Ontario) in 1827. He was the son of Abner Hagar, a former Montreal merchant, and Hannah P. Barker. He was educated in Vermont and became a farmer, merchant and lumber dealer and owned a sawmill and gristmill at Plantagenet.
