Shereefa Lloyd
Shereefa Lloyd (born 2 September 1982 in Clarendon Park, Jamaica) is a Jamaican sprinter, who specializes in the 400 metres. She attended and competed for Texas Tech under coach Wes Kittley. At the 2007 World Championships Lloyd won a bronze medal in 4 × 400 metres relay, together with teammates Shericka Williams, Davita Prendagast and Novlene Williams. She also reached the semi-final in the individual event, with a personal best time of 51.00 seconds. 4 × 400 Metres Relay
The 4 × 400 metres relay or long relay is an athletics track event in which teams consist of four runners who each complete 400 metres or one lap. It is traditionally the final event of a track meet. At top class events, the first leg and the first bend of the second leg are run in lanes. Start lines are thus staggered over a greater distance than in an individual 400 metres race; the runners then typically move to the inside of the track. The slightly longer 4 × 440 yards relay was a formerly run British and American event, until metrication was completed in the 1970s. Relay race runners typically carry a relay baton which they must transfer between teammates. Runners have a 20 m box (usually marked with blue lines) in which to transfer the baton. Wes Kittley
Wes Kittley is the current head coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders track and field team. He has produced several national champions and Olympians in Sally Kipyego and Kennedy Kithuka. Career Abilene Christian, 1983-1999 Kittley was the women's track and field head coach at Abilene Christian University (ACU) from 1985-99. In 1993, the Men's and Women's programs merged. While at ACU, Kittley won his first NCAA Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship at the Division II level in 1985. He would go on to win the Championship in 1986, 1987, and 1988. Kittley's teams would also win many NCAA Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships during his tenure in 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, and 1999. Kittley's program won 29 national track and field championships, the most in Division I and II combined, and three short of the all-time record held by Jim Steen of Kenyon College. Athletics at the 2008 Summer Olympics were held during the last ten days of the games, from August 15 to August 24, 2008, at the Beijing National Stadium. The Olympic sport of athletics is split into four distinct sets of events: track and field events, road running events, and racewalking events. Both men and women had very similar schedules of events. Men competed in 24 events and women in 23, as their schedule lacked the 50 km race walk. Novlene Williams
Novlene Hilaire Williams-Mills (''née'', Williams; born 26 April 1982), is a retired Jamaican track and field athlete. She won the bronze medal in the 400 metres at the 2007 World Championships. She is also a three-time Olympic silver medallist in the 4×400 metres relay. In 2015 she won relay gold alongside her Jamaican teammates. Early life Williams-Mills was born in Saint Ann, Jamaica. She is a graduate of Ferncourt High School, located in Claremont, St. Ann Parish, Jamaica. She attended the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, where she was a member of coach Tom Jones' Florida Gators track and field team.
