Sergine André
Sergine Andre (‘Djinn’), born in the Artibonite region of Haiti, is an artist who has lived and worked in Brussels since 2010. Her paintings express an identity that straddles two worlds. Her imagination draws from both the magical-spiritual tradition of her home region and the Haitian artistic avant-garde and in her paintings she brings together contrasting themes such as life and death, light and shadows. Biography Following technical art training at the Ottawa School of Art in 1997, she won a prize with the Institut Français and the opportunity to work at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris as a guest artist. In 2006, she participated at the Johannesburg Bag Factory in South Africa (as guest artist) and in 2011 at the 54th Venice Biennale. In her art, Sergine draws heavily from childhood, living deep in the countryside of the Artibonite region of Haiti. Verrettes
Verrettes (; ht, Vèrèt) is a commune in the Saint-Marc Arrondissement, in the Artibonite department of Haiti. Palais Des Beaux-arts De Liège
The Palais des Beaux-Arts de Liège is a building at the centre of the Parc de la Boverie in the Belgian city of Liège. It was designed by Charles Étienne Soubre and Jean-Laurent Hasse and is the only building constructed for the Liège International in 1905 which was not demolished at the end of the event. The event's organising committee left it to the city and it became the 'Palais des Fêtes et des Expositions', hosting conferences, balls, banquets, salons and major exhibitions such as the exhibition on the COBRA movement in 1951. The city's prints and drawings collection and the Walloon artistic collection from the city's Musée des Beaux-Arts were both housed in the building from 1952 onwards. Jacmel
Jacmel (; ht, Jakmèl) is a commune in southern Haiti founded by the Spanish in 1504 and repopulated by the French in 1698. It is the capital of the department of Sud-Est, 24 miles (39 km) southwest of Port-au-Prince across the Tiburon Peninsula, and has an estimated population of 40,000, while the commune of Jacmel had a population of 137,966 at the 2003 Census.
