Sendou
Bargny (also, Bargny-Gouddau and Bargny Gouddou) is a settlement in Senegal. It is located in a somewhat sheltered bay about 15 km to the east of the capital, Dakar. Environment The community has a number of severe environmental threats, including coastal erosion and contamination from economic projects and industries in the community. Industries Cement The town holds one of the largest cement factories in West Africa. Created in 1984, the factory creates toxic dust which exposes local residents to contamination. Transport Bargny is the site of a proposed deep water port for mineral exports, such as iron ore. The railway following the coast from Dakar heads inland from this point to Thiès. In 2016, construction of the Train Express Regional started. The Sendou power station ( French: ''Centrale électrique de Sendou'') is a coal-fired power station in Senegal. The power plant, located near Bargny, is currently in operation and will be transformed to a natural gas-fired power station in the near future. History The international tender was launched on 18 November 2005. The agreement between the Minister of Energy of Senegal and the Director General of Senelec on one side and Nykomb Synergetics on other side was signed on 24 January 2008 in Dakar. The agreement stipulated construction and operation of the power station by the Nykomb Synergetics-led consortium, and generated power purchasing by Senelec. Dakar
Dakar ( ; ; wo, Ndakaaru) (from daqaar ''tamarind''), is the capital and largest city of Senegal. The city of Dakar proper has a population of 1,030,594, whereas the population of the Dakar metropolitan area is estimated at 3.94 million in 2021. Coastal Erosion
Coastal erosion is the loss or displacement of land, or the long-term removal of sediment and rocks along the coastline due to the action of waves, currents, tides, wind-driven water, waterborne ice, or other impacts of storms. The landward retreat of the shoreline can be measured and described over a temporal scale of tides, seasons, and other short-term cyclic processes. Coastal erosion may be caused by hydraulic action, abrasion, impact and corrosion by wind and water, and other forces, natural or unnatural. Thiès (; ar, ثيس, Ṯyass; Noon: ''Chess'') is the third largest city in Senegal with a population officially estimated at 320,000 in 2005. It lies east of Dakar on the N2 road and at the junction of railway lines to Dakar, Bamako and St-Louis. It is the capital of Thiès Region and is a major industrial city. History Before colonization, the Thiès Plateau was a wooded frontier between the kingdoms of Cayor and Baol inhabited by the Serer-Noon, an ethnic sub-group of the Serer people. Train Express Regional
The Train Express Regional (TER) is airport rail link in Senegal that connects Dakar with the Blaise Diagne International Airport. It was built by French companies Engie and Thales Group. The contract is valued at €2 billion. History Construction on the TER began in the third quarter of 2016 and is expected to be fully completed at the end of 2023. The line will be built in two stages, with the first covering 36 km from the city of Dakar to Diamniadio, while the second stage covering 19 km more to the airport. The first phase of the line, running the 13 stations from Dakar to Diamniadio, was inaugurated on 27 December 2021. Abasse Ndione
Abasse Ndione (born 16 December 1946) is a Senegalese author and nurse. Life Ndione was born 16 December 1946 in the village of Bargny, close to Dakar, the son of a shopkeeper. He attended the local Koranic school at first; then, with pressure from his father, he and his brother attended French school. He studied nursing and got his first job in 1966, staying in this profession until his retirement. In 1968 he married Meriem, a teacher; they have seven children. He lives in Rufisque, a fishing town about 20 kilometers from Dakar. The ''New African'' said of him, "It would be safe to bet that Abasse Ndione has seldom earned more than a pittance from any publisher.
