Sam Longson
Sam Longson (11 April 190017 January 1989) was a British businessman and chairman of Derby County F.C. Longson founded a road haulage business in Chapel-en-le-Frith that became the largest in Derbyshire. He sold the company by 1967 and also built and sold a hire purchase business. Longson joined the board of directors of Derby County in 1952 and became the chairman in 1966. He was key in bringing Brian Clough to Derby as manager in May 1967, under whose leadership the club won the league in 1972. Clough helped win support to Longson as chairman after he briefly lost the position. Longson's relationship with Clough broke down in 1973 and he accepted Clough's resignation after a disagreement over the manager's media appearances. Derby County F
Derby ( ) is a city and unitary authority area in Derbyshire, England. It lies on the banks of the River Derwent in the south of Derbyshire, which is in the East Midlands Region. Baseball Ground
The Baseball Ground (sometimes referred to as the BBG) was a stadium in Derby, England. It was first used for baseball as the home of Derby Baseball Club from 1890 until 1898 and then for football as the home of Derby County from 1895 until 1997. The club's reserve and youth sides used it until 2003, when it finally closed as a sports stadium after 113 years (108 of them as a football stadium) and was demolished. Jim Broadbent
James Broadbent (born 24 May 1949) is an English actor. He won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award for his supporting role as John Bayley in the feature film ''Iris'' (2001), as well as winning a BAFTA TV Award and a Golden Globe for his leading role as Lord Longford in the television film ''Longford'' (2006). Jimmy Gordon (footballer, Born 1915)
James Gordon (23 October 1915 – 29 August 1996) was a Scottish football player and coach. A native of Fauldhouse, West Lothian, Gordon played for Newcastle United and Middlesbrough as a wing-half. He later worked as a coach under Brian Clough and Peter Taylor at Derby County and Nottingham Forest, and was assistant manager to Clough during his 44-day reign at Leeds United. In honour of his contribution, Gordon was allowed to lead out the Forest players at Wembley for the 1980 Football League Cup Final. Gordon retired as a football coach in May 1981. Roger Davies (born 25 October 1950) is an English retired football forward who played professionally in England, Belgium and the United States. He currently provides radio commentary for Derby County games. Early years Davies was born and grew up in Wolverhampton where he played football from a young age. When he was fifteen, he left school and became an apprentice in an engineering company. However, he continued to play during his free time, up to three or four games a week. Colin Todd
Colin Todd (born 12 December 1948) is an English football manager and former player. He was most recently the manager of Esbjerg fB. As a player, he made more than 600 appearances in the Football League, playing for Sunderland, Derby County, Everton, Birmingham City, Nottingham Forest, Oxford United and Luton Town, and also played in the North American Soccer League for the Vancouver Whitecaps. He won two Football League titles with Derby County during the 1970s, and won the PFA Players' Player of the Year award in 1975. He was capped by England on 27 occasions. Football League First Division
The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. It was the top division in the English football league system from the season 1888–89 until 1991–92, a century in which the First Division's winning club became English men's football champions. The First Division contained between 12 and 24 clubs, playing each other home and away in a double round robin. The competition was based on two points for a win from 1888 until the increase to three points for a win in 1981. Peter Taylor (footballer, Born 1928)
Peter Thomas Taylor (2 July 1928 – 4 October 1990) was an English football player and manager. A goalkeeper with a modest playing career, he went on to work in management alongside Brian Clough at Derby County and Nottingham Forest, winning the Football League with both clubs and the European Cup twice with Nottingham Forest. He joined Coventry City in 1945 and spent the 1953–54 season as Coventry's first choice goalkeeper, but was otherwise mostly used a reserve player. He was sold on to Middlesbrough for £3,500 in 1955, and kept goal for the Second Division club for four full seasons after being promoted to the first team in the 1956–57 campaign. He lost his first team place in 1960, and in June 1961 joined Port Vale for a £750 fee. He took a free transfer to non-league Burton Albion in May 1962, where he ended his playing career.
