Challenge Tour
The Challenge Tour is the second-tier men's professional golf tour in Europe. It is operated by the PGA European Tour and, as with on the main European Tour and the European Senior Tour, some of the events are played outside Europe. History The tour was introduced in 1986 and was initially called the ''Satellite Tour''. The Order of Merit was introduced in 1989, with the top five players on it winning membership of the European Tour for the following season. The following year the tour was renamed the Challenge Tour. Up to 1993 the Challenge Tour rankings were based on each player's best several results, but since 1994 it has been a straightforward money list, with all results counting. Players who are successful on the Challenge Tour qualify for membership of the European Tour the following year. Twenty players earn direct promotion to the European Tour. Stroke Play
Stroke play, also known as medal play, is a scoring system in the sport of golf in which the total number of strokes is counted over one or more rounds of 18 holes. In stroke play, the winner is the player who has taken the fewest strokes over the course of the round, or rounds. Although most professional tournaments are played using the stroke play scoring system, some notable exceptions exist. In match play, the player, or team, earns a point for each hole in which they have bested their opponents. Simon Robinson (golfer)
Simon Robinson (born 16 February 1981) is an English professional golfer. Robinson was born in Hartlepool. He was successful as a junior, winning both the world and European boys championships. He played college golf at the University of Houston. Robinson turned professional in 2004 and has played predominantly on the lower level tours. In 2005 he won three times on the PGA EuroPro Tour to finish in third place on the Order of Merit and earn his place on the second tier Challenge Tour for 2006. Robinson played on the Challenge Tour for four seasons. His best year was 2008 when he claimed his first title on the tour, the SK Golf Challenge held in Finland, and finished 46th on the end of season rankings. Nicolas Colsaerts
Nicolas Colsaerts (born 14 November 1982) is a Belgian professional golfer currently playing on the European Tour and previously on the PGA Tour. Early life Colsaerts, also known as "The Belgian Bomber", was born in Schaerbeek, Belgium. Coming from a sporting family (his great grandfather represented Belgium at basketball and water polo at the 1920 Olympic Games), he started playing golf at 6 years old in Brussels, Belgium. He had a very successful junior and amateur career; he was selected twice for the Junior Ryder Cup (in 1997 and 1999), and represented Belgium at the 1998 and 2000 Eisenhower Trophy. Rhys Davies (golfer)
Rhys Davies (born 28 May 1985) is a Welsh professional golfer. Davies was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, but has lived in Wales for the majority of his life. He played collegiate golf in the United States at East Tennessee State University where he won ten times and was a first team All-American in 2005, 2006, and 2007. He played on two Walker Cup teams (2005 and 2007), and for Europe in four Palmer Cup teams (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007). Davies was second in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (May 2007), before turning pro in September 2007. Davies successfully came through the Asian Tour's qualifying school, allowing him to play on that tour for the 2008 season. Julien Guerrier (born 1 July 1985) is a French professional golfer who plays on the European Tour. He won the 2006 Amateur Championship. Amateur career Guerrier was born in Évreux. He had a successful amateur career, which included winning The Amateur Championship in 2006 at Royal St George's Golf Club. He turned professional after competing in the 2007 Masters Tournament. Professional career Guerrier finished third on the Alps Tour Order of Merit in 2008 to graduate to the second tier Challenge Tour for 2009. He again progressed, finishing 16th on the 2009 Challenge Tour Rankings to earn a European Tour card for 2010, although he later improved his exemption category at qualifying school, recording a record low round of 60 in the process.
