Ross Jennings (singer)
Ross William Jennings (born 7 February 1984) is a British progressive metal singer, most known for being a founder member and the lead vocalist of the bands Haken and Novena. As of 2020, he has released six albums with Haken ('' Aquarius, Visions, The Mountain, Affinity, Vector'' and ''Virus''), one with Novena (''Eleventh Hour''), three with Redados (''Too Tired for Sleep, One Way Conversations and Turbo Torture: Train Like Dogs...Ride Like Gods'') and one solo album ('' A Shadow of My Future Self''). Jennings was born on 7 February 1984 in Salisbury, Wiltshire, and moved to Sutton, London at an early age. His first experience with music was being taken to classical concerts which sparked little passion in him. Haken () are an English progressive metal band formed in 2007 by multi-instrumentalist Richard Henshall, guitarist Matthew Marshall, and vocalist Ross Jennings. While Henshall, Marshall, and Jennings first had the idea of forming Haken in 2004, they opted to pursue their instruments and songwriting first. He is best known for being the guitarist and keyboardist for the bands To-Mera, Haken (band), Haken, Nova Collective, and Opinaut. ''The Mountain'' is the third studio album by British progressive metal band Haken. It was released on 2 September 2013 through Inside Out Music. It is the last album to feature bassist Thomas MacLean. The Euroblast Festival is a heavy metal music festival taking place in Cologne, Germany since 2008. The festival was initiated by close friends John Giulio Sprich and Daniel Schneider. ''A Shadow of My Future Self'' is the debut studio album by British singer-songwriter Ross Jennings. It was released on 19 November 2021 through Graphite Records. Unlike his more well-known Progressive music, Jennings' solo record follows a much more mainstream approach with Jennings directly citing Styx, Coldplay, Journey and Porcupine Tree as references. On 31 December 2021, Jennings announced on Instagram page that a follow-up album was in the works. Background The album's name is a play on the phrase "a shadow of my former self," but spins the phrase in a positive light, with the idea that the person you are now has room to improve and grow as a person. Styx () is an American rock band from Chicago that formed in 1972 and is best known for melding hard rock guitar balanced with acoustic guitar, synthesizers mixed with acoustic piano, upbeat tracks with power ballads, and incorporating elements of international musical theatre. The band established itself with a progressive rock sound in the 1970s, and began to incorporate pop rock and soft rock elements in the 1980s. The Twelve-step Suite (also known as the Twelve-step Saga or Alcoholics Anonymous Suite) is a set of five songs by American progressive metal and rock band Dream Theater. One song was featured on each Dream Theater studio album from ''Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence'' to ''Black Clouds & Silver Linings''. The lyrics to each song, written by the band's then-drummer Mike Portnoy, deal with his experience of alcoholism. Each song represents a certain number of the Twelve Steps. Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band formed in 1985 under the name Majesty by John Petrucci, John Myung and Mike Portnoy while they attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Michael Stephen Portnoy (born April 20, 1967) is an American musician who is primarily known as the former drummer, backing vocalist, and co-founder of the progressive metal band Dream Theater. In September 2010, Portnoy announced his departure from Dream Theater after 25 years, with Mike Mangini taking his place as drummer of the band.
