Rose
A rose is either a woody perennial flowering plant of the genus ''Rosa'' (), in the family Rosaceae (), or the flower it bears. There are over three hundred species and tens of thousands of cultivars. They form a group of plants that can be erect shrubs, climbing, or trailing, with stems that are often armed with sharp prickles. Their flowers vary in size and shape and are usually large and showy, in colours ranging from white through yellows and reds. ''Manon'' () is an ''opéra comique'' in five acts by Jules Massenet to a French libretto by Henri Meilhac and Philippe Gille, based on the 1731 novel '' L'histoire du chevalier des Grieux et de Manon Lescaut'' by the Abbé Prévost. It was first performed at the Opéra-Comique in Paris on 19 January 1884, with sets designed by Eugène Carpezat (act 1), Auguste Alfred Rubé and Philippe Chaperon (acts 2 and 3), and Jean-Baptiste Lavastre (act 4). Prior to Massenet's work, Halévy (''Manon Lescaut'', ballet, 1830) and Auber (''Manon Lescaut'', opéra comique, 1856) had used the subject for musical stage works. Princess Rosette (french: La Princesse Rosette) is a French literary fairy tale written by Madame d'Aulnoy. Andrew Lang included it in ''The Red Fairy Book''. Italo Calvino included an orally collected tale, ''The King of the Peacocks'', in his ''Italian Folktales'', but observed in the notes that it was clearly a variant on ''Princess Rosette''. Synopsis A king and queen, who had two sons, had a daughter as well. All the fairies came to the christening. Piroska Anday (12 December 1899, in Budapest – 22 December 1977, in Vienna) known as Rosette Anday, was a leading Hungarian mezzo-soprano. Life On 23 September 1921, Bizet's opera '' Carmen'' was performed at the Vienna State Opera and a hitherto unknown 18-year-old woman sang the most difficult arias of the opera. Franz Schalk, the then director of the Vienna State Opera, had heard the young singer a few months earlier in Budapest, where she studied singing at the local conservatory and took violin lessons with the composer Jenő Hubay. Schalk employed her immediately, without offering her a customary guest engagement and within a short time Rosette Anday became one of the leading mezzo-sopranos of the Vienna State Opera. Rosette Bir (1926-1992) was a French sculptor. She lived in Montreuil, a suburb of Paris, France. Born in 1926, she started her work at 42, when she finished raising her children in a wealthy family. She learned from the artist Albert Féraud. However, after she learned the techniques, she decided to go her own way by mostly working on geometrical sculptures. In a way, she followed the MADI art, from South America in the sculptural domain. Her work is exclusively based on one material: polished stainless steel. Her collection is only composed of unique, one of a kind, pieces. She made sculptures of every size: from ash trays to a few meters high monumental sculpture, that were sometimes exposed in parks and large lobbies. Beryl Eugenia McBurnie (2 November 1913 – 30 March 2000) was a Trinidadian dancer. She established the Little Carib Theatre in Woodbrook, Port of Spain,, and promoted the culture and arts of Trinidad and Tobago as her life's work.
