Roxburghe House
Roxburghe House is a specialist palliative care unit which is situated near Foresterhill, Aberdeen, Scotland. It is managed by NHS Grampian. History Roxburghe House was established as a hospice and palliative care facility within the grounds of Tor-na-Dee Hospital site at Milltimber in Aberdeen in 1977. Princess Diana visited Roxburghe House in March 1985 and a day care unit was added in 1990. It moved to a purpose-built facility located to the east of the Foresterhill health campus in 2004. In September 2012 an extended garden area, which provides a peaceful and private area for patients and families, was unveiled. Services The facility has a multi-disciplinary team approach to providing care for patients. The team has three consultants, several specialist nurses and a team of trained and untrained nurses. Foresterhill
Foresterhill is an area in the city of Aberdeen, Scotland. It is the site of the city's main hospitals (Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital and the Aberdeen Maternity Hospital), as well as the medical school and medical science departments of the University of Aberdeen. It is the largest hospital complex in Europe. Foresterhill is situated at the highest point in the city, a site identified by Professor Matthew Hay in 1900. He had the vision of an integrated medical campus, with a combined hospital and medical school for the City of Aberdeen. Tor-na-Dee Hospital
Tor-Na-Dee Hospital was a health facility at Milltimber, Aberdeen, Scotland. History The hospital, which was established as part of an initiative by Dr Alexander Stewart to provide services to patients with rheumatism, opened as Deeside Hydropathic Hospital in November 1899. It became the Tor-Na-Dee Sanitorium (meaning ''Hill by the River Dee'') in 1918. An east wing was opened in 1920 and the hospital was acquired by the Red Cross in 1945. After joining the National Health Service in 1955, it became the Tor-Na-Dee Hospital in 1960. Further extensions included the Roxburghe House palliative care unit which opened in 1977 and a day care unit for cancer patients which opened in 1990. The hospital closed in 2002 and the building was subsequently converted into apartments as part of the Woodland Grove development. Milltimber
Milltimber is a suburb of Aberdeen, Scotland, around west of Aberdeen city centre. From 1854 to 1937 the area was served by Milltimber railway station on the Aberdeen suburban railway. Along with the nearby settlements of Cults and Bieldside, it is home to some of the wealthiest residents of Aberdeen. Facilities in Milltimber are somewhat lacking, with the nearest shop situated in neighbouring Bieldside. However, it is home to a highly rated primary school, a church, and a community building which is used for private functions as well as Boy Scout and Girl Guide troops and similar.
