Roscoe Bulmer
USS ''Bulmer'' (DD-222/AG-86) was a Clemson class destroyer, ''Clemson''-class destroyer in the United States Navy during World War II. It was the last warship of the Asiatic Fleet in USN commission. Namesake Roscoe Carlyle Bulmer was born on 4 November 1874 in Virginia City, Nevada. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1894. After World War I, he served as United States naval representative at a conference which met at the British Admiralty to consider clearing the seas of Naval mine, mines after the war. On 5 January 1919 he assumed command of that operation. Captain (United States O-6), Captain Bulmer died at Kirkwall, Scotland on 5 August 1919. A naval mine is a self-contained explosive device placed in water to damage or destroy surface ships or submarines. Unlike depth charges, mines are deposited and left to wait until they are triggered by the approach of, or contact with, any vessel or a particular vessel type, akin to anti-infantry vs. anti-vehicle mines. Naval mines can be used offensively, to hamper enemy shipping movements or lock vessels into a harbour; or defensively, to protect friendly vessels and create "safe" zones. Chefoo
Yantai, formerly known as Chefoo, is a coastal prefecture-level city on the Shandong Peninsula in northeastern Shandong province of People's Republic of China. Lying on the southern coast of the Bohai Strait, Yantai borders Qingdao on the southwest and Weihai on the east, with sea access to both the Bohai Sea (via the Laizhou Bay and the Bohai Strait) and the Yellow Sea (from both north and south sides of the Shandong Peninsula). United States Pacific Fleet
The United States Pacific Fleet (USPACFLT) is a theater-level component command of the United States Navy, located in the Pacific Ocean. It provides naval forces to the Indo-Pacific Command. Fleet headquarters is at Joint Base Pearl Harbor–Hickam, Hawaii, with large secondary facilities at Naval Air Station North Island, California.
