Roman Catholic Diocese Of Catarman
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Catarman (Lat: ''Dioecesis Catarmaniensis'') is a Roman Rite diocese of the Latin Church of the Catholic Church in the Philippines. Erected in 1974, the diocese is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Palo and has experienced no jurisdictional changes since its establishment. The current bishop is Emmanuel Trance, the diocese's coadjutor bishop before automatically succeeding Angel Hobayan due to the latter's retirement in 2005. Trance hails from Calinog, Iloilo under the Archdiocese of Jaro. Catarman Cathedral
Catarman Cathedral, also known as the Our Lady of the Annunciation Cathedral Parish, is a Roman Catholic cathedral in the Philippine municipality of Catarman, Northern Samar, Catarman, Northern Samar, in the country's Eastern Visayas region. It is dedicated to the Virgin Mary under the title Annunciation, Our Lady of the Annunciation, and has been the cathedral of the Diocese of Catarman since the diocese's establishment in 1974. History The Jesuits ordered the construction of the first church made out of wood and nipa as a ''visita'' of the parish of Palapag, under the patronage of the ''Nuestra Senora de la Anunciacion'' in 1596. The said church was subsequently reconstructed after it was burned in an uprising headed by Agustin Sumuroy in 1649. The Franciscans took over the administration of Catarman in 1768. A coadjutor bishop (or bishop coadjutor) is a bishop in the Catholic, Anglican, and (historically) Eastern Orthodox churches whose main role is to assist the diocesan bishop in the administration of the diocese. The coadjutor (literally, "co-assister" in Latin) is a bishop himself, although he is also appointed as vicar general. The coadjutor bishop is, however, given authority beyond that ordinarily given to the vicar general, making him co-head of the diocese in all but ceremonial precedence. Angel Tec-i Hobayan (December 11, 1929 – March 11, 2023) was a Filipino bishop of the Roman Catholic Church. He was the first Bishop of Catarman from 1974 to 2005. Ministry Priesthood Hobayan received the Sacrament of Holy Orders for the Diocese of Calbayog on March 25, 1955. On October 22, 1960, he was ordinated into the clergy of the newly formed Borongan Diocese. He later served as Vicar General of the Diocese of Borongan and Regent of the Jesus Nazareno Seminary in Borongan. From 1968 to 1969, Hobayan led the Diocese of Borongan during the vacancy of the Sede as Capitular Vicar. Pope Paul VI awarded him the papal honorary title of Apostolic Protonotary on June 28, 1974. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Jaro is an archdiocese of the Catholic Church headquartered in Jaro, Iloilo City, the Philippines. It is based with the Jaro Cathedral (officially the Metropolitan Cathedral of St. Elizabeth of Hungary, also the National Shrine of Our Lady of Candles) as its seat. The Archdiocese of Jaro is one of the oldest episcopal sees in the country.
