Robert Jaffray
Robert Jaffray (January 23, 1832 – December 16, 1914) was a Canadians, Canadian grocer, publisher (''The Globe (Toronto newspaper), The Globe''), and politician. A Liberal Party of Canada, Liberal, he was appointed to the Senate of Canada on 8 March 1906 on the recommendation of Sir Wilfrid Laurier. He represented the Canadian Senate divisions, senatorial division of Toronto, Ontario until his death. He is buried in Toronto's Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto, Mount Pleasant Cemetery. His son Robert A. Jaffray was a Christian missionary to China who was trained by A.B. Simpson. ''The Globe'' was a newspaper in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, founded in 1844 by George Brown (Canadian politician), George Brown as a Reform movement (pre-Confederation Canada), Reform voice. It merged with ''The Mail and Empire'' in 1936 to form ''The Globe and Mail''. History ''The Globe'' is pre-dated by a title of the same name, which ran from 1840 to 1841; they are of no relation. ''The Globe'' began as a weekly newspaper on March 5, 1844, edited by George Brown (Canadian politician), George Brown, a Presbyterian immigrant from Scotland by way of New York City, where he and his father had edited newspapers. A Christian mission is an organized effort for the propagation of the Christian faith. Mount Pleasant Cemetery is a cemetery located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and is part of the Mount Pleasant Group of Cemeteries. It was opened in November 1876 and is located north of Moore Park, a neighbourhood of Toronto. The cemetery has kilometres of drives and walking paths interspersed with fountains, statues and botanical gardens, as well as rare and distinct trees. It was originally laid out by German-born landscape architect Henry Adolph Engelhardt, inspired by the European and American garden cemeteries of the 19th century, and with influences from Mount Auburn Cemetery in Boston. Canadian Senate divisions refers to two aspects of the Senate of Canada.
