The National Ringette League (NRL), ''(french: Ligue Nationale de Ringuette, LNR)'', is the premier sports league for the sport of ringette in North America and Canada's national league for elite ringette players aged 18+. All of the NRL's elite athletes are women, one of ringette's distinctive features. The NRL is a semi-professional league which operates as a showcase league for the sport and is the first and only winter team sports league in North America whose entire elite athlete roster involves players who are women rather than men. The league's inaugural year was in November of 2004 and had completed seventeen seasons of play by the end of the 2021-22 season. Players are selected from the league to help form Canada's national ringette teams. The NRL functions as a committee under Ringette Canada, a non-profit sports organization and the national governing body of ringette in Canada. Ringette
Ringette is a contact sport, non-contact winter team sport played on ice hockey rinks using Ice skates#Ice hockey skates, ice hockey skates, straight sticks with drag-tips, and a #Equipment, blue, rubber, pneumatic ring designed for use on ice surfaces. The sport is among a small number of organized team sports created exclusively for female competitors. Though ice hockey rinks are used, #Ringette rink, ringette rinks use markings specific to ringette and the sport uses strategic play which more closely resembles basketball than ice hockey. The sport was created in Canada for girls in 1963 by Sam Jacks from West Ferris, Ontario and Red McCarthy from Espanola, Ontario. In 2018, over 50,000 players registered to play the sport. National Ringette League Playoffs
The National Ringette League playoffs are the knockout match, round robin, and tournament for determining the champion for National Ringette League (NRL). The National Ringette League (NRL) playoffs began during the league's second season which was the 2005-06 National Ringette League season, 2005-06 season. In 2008, the NRL playoffs replaced the national championships for the Under-19 years and Open divisions at the Canadian Ringette Championships and have been conducted in this manner since. The 2010–11 season introduced the new "NRL Championship Tournament" replacing the ''Championship qualifying rounds'' and takes place in just one city with the intention of allowing the league to create a media event and to hold attention. Atlantic Attack
The Atlantic Attack are a ringette team in the Canadian National Ringette League (NRL) that mostly consists of players from Atlantic Canada. The team competes in the Eastern Conference in the White division and was founded in 2011. The team's home arena is in Cocagne, New Brunswick. In their 7th season, the Atlantic Attack won their first National Ringette League Playoff title. Team history The Attack's inaugural season was in 2011–12. The first team roster was announced on September 21, 2011 and their first game in the league was played on October 15, 2011 against Gatineau Fusion. The first game in their home arena in Cocagne was played on February 5, 2012, against Le Royal de Bourassa. Bourassa Royal
The Bourassa Royal or Le Royal de Bourassa is a Canadian ringette team in Canada's National Ringette League (NRL) which competes in the Eastern Conference in the White division. Founded in 2004 and based in Quebec, the team recruits players from Bourassa-Laval-Lanaudière. The team has been inactive in the recent years of the NRL. From its inaugural season in 2004 until the 2011–12 season, the team was called the BLL Nordiques after which it became "Bourassa Royal". The 2002 World Ringette Championships (''2002 WRC'') was an international ringette tournament and the 6th edition (XI) of the World Ringette Championships organized by the International Ringette Federation (IRF). The tournament was contested in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, between November 25 and November 30, 2002, at the Northlands AgriCom Arena, now called the Edmonton Expo Centre. The final match was broadcast in Canada and followed by over 140,000 televiewers. Overview The 2002 victory by Team Canada was considered particularly notable. North Bay, Ontario
North Bay is a city in Northeastern Ontario, Canada. It is the seat of Nipissing District, and takes its name from its position on the shore of Lake Nipissing. North Bay developed as a railroad centre, and its airport was an important military location during the Cold War.
