Ratchet Orchestra
The Ratchet Orchestra is an avant garde jazz musical group based in Montreal, Canada. The band was started in the early 1990s, when musical director Nicolas Caloia began experimenting with improvised chamber jazz. Members such as Tom Walsh, Jean Derome, Lori Freedman, Sam Shalabi, and Christopher Cauley soon joined. Four members played on their 1994 eponymous debut. Their third album ''Hemlock'' brought in a large number of musicians, with 31 members counted on the back of the CD.It was recorded by Godspeed You! Black Emperor bassist Thierry Amar over several days at the Hotel 2 Tango studio, and released on Drip Audio Records in Vancouver. It was nominated for Instrumental Album of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2013. Fontana North
Fontana North is a Canadian record distribution company and represents the Canadian wing of Fontana Distribution. It is a joint venture between Canadian-based MapleMusic Recordings, Cadence Music Group and US-based Fontana Distribution. The company was established by MapleCore in 2004 as MapleNationwide, and in 2006, it partnered with Fontana Distribution and was rebranded as Fontana North. It has expanded throughout Canada for pan-Canadian distribution of many music labels. Thierry Amar is a Canadian musician, engineer and producer. He is a member of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band, Earthquake Architecture, The Craig Pedersen Quartet and Black Ox Orkestar. He is co-founder/creator of Hotel2Tango. Career Amar joined Godspeed You! Black Emperor around the time of its debut album, ''F♯ A♯ ∞''. He, with Mauro Pezzente, plays the electric bass in the group. When playing with Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band or Black Ox Orkestar, he usually plays double bass. He also played violin on the EP '' The "Pretty Little Lightning Paw" E.P.''. Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Godspeed You! Black Emperor (sometimes abbreviated to GY!BE or Godspeed) is a Canadian post-rock band which originated in Montreal, Quebec in 1994. The group releases recordings through Constellation, an independent record label also located in Montreal. After the release of their debut album in 1997, the group toured regularly from 1998 to 2003. Their second album, 2000's ''Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven'', received critical acclaim and has been named as one of the best albums of the decade. In 2003, the band announced an indefinite hiatus in order for members to pursue other musical interests. In the intervening period, the group was occasionally rumored to have broken up, but finally reconvened for a tour which began in late 2010. The Juno Awards of 2013 honoured Canadian music industry achievements in the latter part of 2011 and in most of 2012.
