Raphaële Bidault-Waddington
Raphaële Bidault-Waddington (born 1971) is an artist-researcher and writer based in Paris, France, who frequently collaborates with universities, companies and city authorities around the world. Artistic practice Bidault-Waddington organized her practice via "labs" all part of the LIID Future Lab to pursue her research on urban development, immaterial economy, images, value and knowledge in the broader context of digital and environmental transitions. As a post-conceptual artist, her statement has been since 2000 that Art is a multifaceted way of thinking, producing knowledge and experimenting that has a value far beyond the art domain. Her practice shows similarities with the emerging field of Critical Design and speculative design. Post-conceptual Art
Post-conceptual, postconceptual, post-conceptualism or postconceptualism is an art theory that builds upon the legacy of conceptual art in contemporary art, where the concept(s) or idea(s) involved in the work takes some precedence over traditional aesthetic and material concerns. The term first came into art school parlance through the influence of John Baldessari at the California Institute of the Arts in the early 1970s. The writer Eldritch Priest, specifically ties John Baldessari's piece ''Throwing four balls in the air to get a square (best of 36 tries)'' from 1973 (in which the artist attempted to do just that, photographing the results, and eventually selecting the best out of 36 tries (with 36 being the determining number as that is the standard number of shots on a roll of 35mm film) as an early example of post-conceptual art. Critical Design
Critical design makes aspects of future physically present to provoke a reaction. ''"Critical design is critical thought translated into materiality. It is about thinking through design rather than through words and using the language and structure of design to engage people .."''. It is related to the critical theory and the Frankfurt School. This kind of design uses design fiction and speculative design proposals to challenge assumptions and conceptions about the role objects play in everyday life. Critical design plays a similar role to product design, but does not emphasize an object's commercial purpose or physical utility. It is mainly used to share a critical perspective or inspire debate while increasing awareness of social, cultural, or ethical issues in the eyes of the public.
