Qarabolaq
Qarabolaq or Qareh Bulaq ( prs, قرهبلاق) is a small settlement in the Great Pamir in Wakhan District, Badakhshan Province, northeastern Afghanistan. It lies at an altitude of 4,139 m on the eastern shore of Zorkul lake, near the Afghan border with Tajikistan but also close to the Afghan borders with Pakistan and China. Climate Qarabolaq has an alpine tundra climate (Köppen: ''ET''). It has brief, cool summers and long, frigid winters. With an annual mean of , Qarabolaq lies in the continuous permafrost zone. Badakhshan Province
Badakhshan Province (Persian/ Uzbek: , ''Badaxšān'') is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan, located in the northeastern part of the country. It is bordered by Tajikistan's Gorno-Badakhshan in the north and the Pakistani regions of Lower and Upper Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan in the southeast. Zorkul
Zorkul ( ps, زارکول; tg, Зоркӯл, Zārkul) is a lake in the Pamir Mountains that runs along the border between Afghanistan and Tajikistan. Geography Lake Zorkul extends east to west for about 25 km. The Afghanistan–Tajikistan border runs along the lake from east to west, turning south towards Concord Peak (5,469 m), about 15 km south of the lake. Alpine Tundra
Alpine tundra is a type of natural region or biome that does not contain trees because it is at high elevation, with an associated harsh climate. As the latitude of a location approaches the poles, the threshold elevation for alpine tundra gets lower until it reaches sea level, and alpine tundra merges with polar tundra.
