Portugal competed in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Armenia, which was held on 11 December 2022 in Yerevan. Portuguese broadcaster RTP is responsible for the participation, and selected Nicolas Alves to represent the country, after being the runner-up on the third season of ''The Voice Kids'', due to the actual winner Maria Gil having been born in November 2007. The Voice Kids (Portuguese Season 3)
The third season of Portuguese ''The Voice Kids'' is a talent show broadcast on RTP1, which premiered on 8 May 2022. Carlão, Carolina Deslandes and Fernando Daniel returned for their second seasons as coaches and in the meantime, Marisa Liz was replaced by young sensation Bárbara Tinoco. Presenter Catarina Furtado continues to host the show, and Fábio Lopes also returns as the backstage presenter. Maria Gil won the season, marking Fernando Daniel's second consecutive win as a coach. ''The Voice Kids'' is the junior version of ''The Voice Portugal'', broadcast on RTP1, with competitors between the ages of seven and fifteen.
