Punjab Ekta Party
The Punjab Ekta Party was a political party in India, founded by Sukhpal Singh Khaira on 8 January 2019. It was a Punjab-centric regional party which later merged with Indian National Congress on 17 June 2021. History *Sukhpal Khaira was elected in 2017 from the Bholath constituency on the ticket of the Aam Aadmi Party. After the resignation of H. S. Phoolka as Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, Khaira was appointed as his replacement. However, due to differences with central leadership he was eventually sacked from the post. *On 6 January 2019 he resigned from the Aam Aadmi Party and on 8 January formed new party. He also declared interest in making an electoral coalition with like -minded parties in Punjab for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Sukhpal Singh Khaira
Sukhpal Singh Khaira (born 13 January 1965) is an Indian Politician serving as Congress MLA from Bholath constituency as his 3rd term. He was the Leader of Opposition in Punjab Legislative Assembly during July 2017 to July 2018. He started his political career with Youth Congress. In 1997, He became vice President of Punjab Youth Congress. He got political legacy from his father Sukhjinder Singh Khaira, stalwart Akali leader. Personal life Sukhpal Singh Khaira is the son of veteran Akali leader and former Punjab education minister Sukhjinder Singh Khaira. He did his schooling from Bishop Cotton School, Shimla. 2015 Guru Granth Sahib Desecration Controversy
The 2015 Guru Granth Sahib desecration (also known as the ''2015 Sri Guru Granth Sahib sacrilege'') refers to a series of desecration incidents of the ''Sikh Guru'' Guru Granth Sahib and subsequent protests that took place in Punjab, India in October 2015, although it is known as the 2015 Guru Granth Sahib desecration it started from 2014 and continues till 2021. The first incident of desecration was reported from Bargari, Faridkot district, where 110 torn Angs (literally body part means pages) of the holy Guru were found on 12 October. On the early morning hours of 14 October, two Sikhs were peacefully protesting and were shot dead by the police as the protesters were sitting in demonstration. The Lok Sabha, constitutionally the House of the People, is the lower house of India's bicameral Parliament, with the upper house being the Rajya Sabha. Members of the Lok Sabha are elected by an adult universal suffrage and a first-past-the-post system to represent their respective constituencies, and they hold their seats for five years or until the body is dissolved by the President on the advice of the council of ministers. ''The Pioneer'' is an English-language daily newspaper in India. It is published from multiple locations in India, including Delhi. It is the second oldest English-language newspaper in India still in circulation after ''The Times of India''. In 2010, The Pioneer launched its Hindi version in Lucknow. 2019 Indian General Election
General elections were held in India in seven phases from 11 April to 19 May 2019 to elect the members of the 17th Lok Sabha. Votes were counted and the result was declared on 23 May. Around 912 million people were eligible to vote, and voter turnout was over 67 percent – the highest ever, as well as the highest ever participation by women voters. The Bharatiya Janata Party received 37.36% of the vote, the highest vote share by a political party since the 1989 general election, and won 303 seats, further increasing its substantial majority. In addition, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won 353 seats.
