Principal Staff Officer (Bangladesh)
The Principal Staff Officer, abbreviated as PSO, is the principal assistant and chief of staff to the head of the Armed Forces Division, usually the prime minister, of Bangladesh, the high command of the national armed forces. It is currently held by a three-star rank lieutenant general. Role and functions The Principal Staff Officer is the head of Armed Forces Division, which is part of the Prime Minister's Office. He is assisted by a PS (acting PSO) & five departmental heads each one star rank military officer from Bangladesh Armed Forces. Under the direct supervision and guidance of the Prime Minister he has the authority, direction, and control over all operational and administrative services. Lieutenant General (Bangladesh)
Lieutenant General (abbreviated as Lt. Gen. and in contraction simply known as 'general') is a senior rank in the Bangladesh Army. It is the second-highest active rank of the Bangladesh Army and was created as a direct equivalent of the British military rank of lieutenant general. It is also considered a 3 star rank. Till 2007 it was the highest rank in the Bangladesh Armed Forces as all chiefs of army staff held this rank and navy and air chiefs were of two-star ranks. Lieutenant general is a higher rank than Major General, but lower than General. Lieutenant general is the equivalent of vice admiral in the Bangladesh Navy and air marshal in the Bangladesh Air Force. Mohammad Shubid Ali Bhuiyan is a retired Bangladesh Army officer and present Awami League politician and member of parliament for Comilla-1. Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Haq (born 1 December 1958) is a retired Bangladesh army general and the chief of staff of the Bangladesh Army, in office from 25 June 2015 to 25 June 2018. Before his tenure as chief of staff he served as the principal staff officer of Prime Minister's Office of the Armed Forces Division.
