Karla MacFarlane
Karla Michelle MacFarlane (born 1969) is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly in the 2013 provincial election. A member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia, she represents the electoral district of Pictou West. MacFarlane is a graduate of Husson University in Maine with an associate degree in Business Communications. In 2016, MacFarlane was named "Legislator of the Year" at the non-profit Springtide Collective's Better Politics Awards. She was re-elected in the 2017 provincial election. MacFarlane was appointed interim leader of the Progressive Conservative party and Leader of the Opposition on January 24, 2018, when her predecessor, Jamie Baillie, was forced to resign due to allegations of inappropriate behaviour. Muriel Baillie
Muriel "Fluff" Baillie (July 4, 1935 – September 22, 2018) was a Canadian politician. She represented the electoral district of Pictou West in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1999 to 2003. She was a member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia. Baillie was born in 1935 at River John, Nova Scotia, and educated at the Nova Scotia Normal College for Teachers. A retired school principal in River John, Baillie was the Progressive Conservative candidate for Pictou West in the 1999 provincial election. She defeated New Democrat incumbent Charlie Parker by 147 votes to win the seat. Harvey Veniot
Harvey Alfred Veniot, (November 18, 1915 – October 2, 2009) was a lawyer, judge and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Pictou West in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1956 to 1974 as a Progressive Conservative member. Veniot was born in Pictou, Nova Scotia, the son of Alexander R. Veniot and Gladys Maclean, and was educated at Pictou Academy, St. Francis Xavier University, Dalhousie Law School and the University of Saskatchewan. He was called to the Nova Scotia bar in 1940. Veniot married Rhoda Marion MacLeod in 1944. Political career Veniot served as a town councillor in Pictou from 1945 to 1946. In 1953, he was an unsuccessful candidate for a seat in the provincial assembly, losing to Liberal incumbent Stewart W. Proudfoot by 9 votes. Nova Scotia Liberal Party
The Nova Scotia Liberal Party is a centrist provincial political party in Nova Scotia, Canada and the provincial section of the Liberal Party of Canada. The party currently forms the Official Opposition in Nova Scotia, under the leadership of Zach Churchill. The party was in power most recently from the 2013 election until the 2021 election. Origins The party is descended from the pre-Confederation Reformers in Nova Scotia who coalesced around Joseph Howe demanding the institution of responsible government. The Liberals (Reformers) formed several governments in the colony between 1848 and 1867. The party split during the debate on Confederation, with Howe and most other Liberals forming an Anti-Confederation Party, while supporters of confederation joined Tory Charles Tupper's Confederation Party.
