Argyle (electoral District)
Argyle is a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada which existed between 1981 and 2013 and since 2021. It elects one member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. It was created in 1981 when the district of Yarmouth was split into two separate districts. The district comprises most of the Municipality of the District of Argyle, an Acadian area occupying the eastern half of Yarmouth County. The electoral district was abolished following the 2012 electoral boundary review and was largely replaced by the new electoral district of Argyle-Barrington. Bernie Boudreau
James Bernard Boudreau (born July 25, 1944) is a Canadian lawyer and politician. Provincial politics Boudreau was elected to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from Cape Breton The Lakes in the 1988 provincial election. He was re-elected in 1993, and was appointed to the Executive Council of Nova Scotia as Minister of Finance in the Liberal government of John Savage. From 1996, he served as Minister of Health. When Savage resigned in 1997, Boudreau entered the leadership race to succeed him, but was defeated by Russell MacLellan, prompting Boudreau to leave provincial politics. Federal politics In October 1999, Prime Minister Jean Chrétien recommended Boudreau for appointment to the Senate of Canada, and to the Cabinet as Leader of the Government in the Senate, replacing Alasdair Graham who had been Nova Scotia's representative in the government since June 1997. Cape Breton South (provincial Electoral District)
Cape Breton South is a former provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada which existed from 1933 to 2013. It elected one member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. In its last configuration, the district included Sydney and its western suburbs until the North West Arm and south along the Sydney River until Blacketts Lake. In 1933, the County of Cape Breton was divided into five electoral districts, one of which was named Cape Breton South. In 2003, it lost part of the Ashby area to Cape Breton Nova and gained Balls Creek and the Coxheath area. Following the 2012 electoral boundary review, the district was dissolved into Northside-Westmount, Sydney-Whitney Pier and Sydney River-Mira-Louisbourg. Vincent James MacLean (born December 8, 1944)Normandin, PG ''Canadian Parliamentary Guide, 1977'' was leader of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party in 1985 and again from 1986 to 1992. He was replaced by John Savage. He was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia on Cape Breton Island, the son of Joseph W. MacLean and Marguerite MacNeil. MacLean grew up and lives in Sydney. He was educated at Sydney Academy, St. Francis Xavier University, the University of New Brunswick and Saint Mary's University. He served in the Canadian Officers' Training Corps at CFB Shilo in Manitoba from 1964 to 1966. In 1968, he married Natalie Furdas. Cape Breton Nova is a former provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada which existed between 1956 and 2013. It elected one member to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. In its last configuration, the district included the northern parts of Sydney including Whitney Pier, as well as a small area of Cape Breton County, all within the Cape Breton Regional Municipality. The district was created in 1956. In 1993, it gained the Ashby area between Welton Street and Ashby Road from Cape Breton South and the Grand Lake Road area from Cape Breton West. It lost the Scotchtown and River Ryan/Lingan areas to Cape Breton Centre. In 2003, it lost the New Victoria area and gained part of northern Sydney. Paul MacEwan
Paul MacEwan (April 8, 1943 – May 2, 2017) was a politician in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada, and long-time member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly (MLA). Early life and education He was the son of Horace Frederick MacEwan and was educated at the Sydney Academy, the Nova Scotia Teachers College, Saint Francis Xavier University, Mount Allison University, and Cape Breton University, from which he held a B.A. degree. He then worked as a teacher in Sydney. Political career As an NDP member MacEwan was elected first as a candidate of the social democratic Nova Scotia New Democratic Party in the 1970 provincial election. He ran in Cape Breton Nova, a heavily blue collar riding (electoral district) that was home to the Sydney Steel plant and many coal miners. Brian Alexander Young (born September 29, 1949''Canadian Parliamentary Guide, 1984'', PG Normandin) is a former politician in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Cape Breton North in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1981 to 1993 as a Progressive Conservative member. He was born in North Sydney, Nova Scotia, the son of James R. Young and Julia Therese Young, and educated at St. Francis Xavier University and Dalhousie University. He married Nancy Ann Wilkie in 1975. Young is president of Young's Topex Limited, which produces speciality steel products. Young established a foundation to promote organ donation which is named after his daughter Carmen, who died in 1992 after undergoing a double lung transplant. John Duncan MacEachern (born November 8, 1946) is a former educator and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Cape Breton East in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1988 to 1998 as a Liberal member. He was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia in 1946 and was educated at St. Francis Xavier University and Dalhousie University. MacEachern was a math and physics teacher and high school vice-principal. MacEachern entered provincial politics in the 1988 election, defeating Progressive Conservative Bruce Clark by 1,725 votes in the Cape Breton East riding. He was re-elected in the 1993 election by almost 6,000 votes. On June 11, 1993, MacEachern was appointed to the Executive Council of Nova Scotia as Minister of Education and Culture.
