Pic Mobert First Nation
Netmizaaggamig Nishnaabeg (formerly Pic Mobert First Nation) is an Ojibwe First Nation band government in Northwestern Ontario, Canada. The First Nation has two reserves: Pic Mobert North and Pic Mobert South, both located approximately east of Marathon, Ontario, along the eastern shores of White Lake. The community has year-round road access. As of October 2021, Netmizaaggamig Nishnaabeg had a registered population of 1064 members, 352 of whom live on-reserve. Governance Netmizaaggamig Nishnaabeg is currently led by Chief Johanna Desmoulin, and is governed by a Chi-Naaknigewin (Community Constitution) approved in 2016. The Nation is a member of the Nokiiwin Tribal Council and of the Anishinabek Nation. Ojibwe
The Ojibwe, Ojibwa, Chippewa, or Saulteaux are an Anishinaabe people in what is currently southern Canada, the northern Midwestern United States, and Northern Plains. According to the U.S. census, in the United States Ojibwe people are one of the largest tribal populations among Native American peoples. In Canada, they are the second-largest First Nations population, surpassed only by the Cree. They are one of the most numerous Indigenous Peoples north of the Rio Grande. Nokiiwin Tribal Council
Nokiiwin Tribal Council (from Ojibwe ''anokiiwin'', "work, employment") is a non-profit Regional Chiefs' Council located in the Thunder Bay District, Ontario, Canada, serving five First Nations by providing advisory services and training which will enhance the overall management skills and opportunities of the area's First Nations. Governance The Council was formed in 2008 to serve five Ojibwe First Nations in western Robinson-Superior Treaty area. Since its creation, one First Nation left the council but another First Nation joined the council, concentrating the membership to the Lake Nipigon area of Robinson-Superior Treaty area. First Nations (french: Premières Nations) is a term used to identify those Indigenous Canadian peoples who are neither Inuit nor Métis. In Canada, an Indian band or band (french: bande indienne, link=no), sometimes referred to as a First Nation band (french: bande de la Première Nation, link=no) or simply a First Nation, is the basic unit of government for those peoples subject to the ''Indian Act'' (i.e. status Indians or First Nations). Northwestern Ontario is a secondary region of Northern Ontario in the Canadian province of Ontario which lies north and west of Lake Superior and west of Hudson Bay and James Bay. Marathon, Ontario
Marathon is a town in the Canadian province of Ontario, located in Thunder Bay District, on the north shore of Lake Superior north of Pukaskwa National Park, in the heart of the Canadian Shield. Geography Personal residences encompass an area starting from Lake Superior, and stretch out to a new subdivision near Penn Lake, an in-town campsite and beach in the eastern portion of the town. The Pic River is outside of the town's eastern limits. Anishinabek Nation
The Anishinabek Nation, also known as the Union of Ontario Indians, is a First Nations political organization representing 39 member Anishinabek Nation First Nations in Canada in the province of Ontario, Canada. The organization's roots predate European contact in the 16th century, in the Council of Three Fires. The Union of Ontario Indians was incorporated in 1949 to serve as a political advocate and secretariat for the Anishinabek First Nations. The Anishinabek peoples speak Anishinaabemowin and Lunaape (in Munsee Delaware Nation) within the Anishinabek Nation territory in Ontario.
