''Peter Voss, Thief of Millions'' or ''The Man Without a Name'' (German: ''Der Mann ohne Namen'') is a 1921 German silent adventure film directed by Georg Jacoby and starring Harry Liedtke, Paul Otto, and Mady Christians. It was released in six separate parts. A number of such serials were made during the early Weimar Republic, including Joe May's '' The Mistress of the World''. It is based on the novel '' Peter Voss, Thief of Millions'' by Ewald Gerhard Seeliger which has been adapted for the screen a number of times. The film's sets were designed by the art director Kurt Richter. It was shot at the Tempelhof Studios with extensive location filming taking place in Denmark, Italy, Spain, Morocco, and Dalmatia. Joe May
Joe May (born Joseph Otto Mandl; 7 November 1880 – 29 April 1954) was an Austrian film director and film producer and one of the pioneers of German cinema. Biography After studying in Berlin and a variety of odd jobs, he began his career as a stage director of operettas in Hamburg. In 1902 he had married the actress Mia May (born Hermine Pfleger) and took his stage name from hers. Continental-Kunstfilm As Joe May, he made ten films for Continental-Kunstfilm GmbH in Berlin; the first, ''In der Tiefe des Schachtes (In the Depths of the Pit)'' was released in November 1912, followed by ''Vorglühen des Balkanbrandes (The Balkan Traitors)'' (starring Ernst Reicher). Dalmatia
Dalmatia (; hr, Dalmacija ; it, Dalmazia; see names in other languages) is one of the four historical regions of Croatia, alongside Croatia proper, Slavonia, and Istria. Tempelhof Studios
The Tempelhof Studios are a film studio located in Tempelhof in the German capital of Berlin. They were founded in 1912, during the silent era, by German film pioneer Alfred Duskes, who built a glass-roofed studio on the site with financial backing from the French company Pathé. The producer Paul Davidson's PAGU then took control and constructed a grander structure. The First World War propaganda drama '' The Yellow Passport'', the historical comedy '' Madame DuBarry'' and the expressionist 1920 silent film '' The Golem'' were made there by PAGU.
