Pete (Disney)
Pete (also called Peg-Leg Pete, Bad Pete and Black Pete, among other names) is a fictional character of The Walt Disney Company. Created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks, Pete is traditionally depicted as the arch-nemesis of Mickey Mouse and his associates in various cartoons and comics. He originally bore the appearance of an anthropomorphic bear, but with the advent of Mickey in 1928, he was defined as a cat. Pete is the oldest continuing Disney character, having debuted three years before Mickey Mouse in the cartoon '' Alice Solves the Puzzle'' ( 1925). Pete was unnamed in the first year of Mickey Mouse cartoons until 1930, when he was given the name “Peg-Leg Pete”. ''Alice Solves the Puzzle'' is a 1925 animated short film directed by Walt Disney. It was the 15th film in the ''Alice Comedies'' series, and is notable for being the first film to feature Pete, the longest-recurring Disney character. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit (also known as Oswald the Rabbit or Oswald Rabbit) is a cartoon character created in 1927 by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks for Universal Pictures. He starred in several animated short films released to theaters from 1927 to 1938. Twenty-seven animated Oswald shorts were produced at the Walt Disney Studio. The ''Alice Comedies'' are a series of animated/live-action shorts created by Walt Disney in the 1920s, in which a live action little girl named Alice (originally played by Virginia Davis) and an animated cat named Julius have adventures in an animated landscape. ''Alice's Wonderland'' Disney, Ub Iwerks, and their staff made the first ''Alice Comedy'', a one-reel (ten-minute) 1923 short subject titled ''Alice's Wonderland'', while still heading the failing Laugh-O-Gram Studio in Kansas City, Missouri. Bears are carnivoran mammals of the family Ursidae. They are classified as caniforms, or doglike carnivorans.
