Perpetual Testing Initiative
''Portal 2'' is a 2011 puzzle-platform video game developed by Valve for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. The digital PC version is distributed online by Valve's Steam service, while all retail editions were distributed by Electronic Arts. A port for the Nintendo Switch was included as part of ''Portal: Companion Collection''. Like the original ''Portal'' (2007), players solve puzzles by placing portals and teleporting between them. ''Portal 2'' adds features including tractor beams, lasers, light bridges, and paint-like gels that alter player movement or allow portals to be placed on any surface. In the single-player campaign, players control Chell, who navigates the dilapidated Aperture Science Enrichment Center during its reconstruction by the supercomputer GLaDOS ( Ellen McLain); new characters include robot Wheatley ( Stephen Merchant) and Aperture founder Cave Johnson ( J. K. Simmons). In the new cooperative mode, players solve puzzles together as r ...

ATLAS And P-body
The following is a list of characters in '' Portal'' and '' Portal 2'', both developed and published by the Valve. Humans Chell Chell is the player-character in both ''Portal'' games. She is a silent protagonist outside of small grunts during physical tasks. Very little truthful information is known about Chell; while GLaDOS makes many statements to Chell's background and history, GLaDOS herself admits she is unreliable. The only consistent fact that is used through the series is that Chell's parents gave her away. Whether they did it intentionally or not is unknown. Doug Rattmann Doug Rattmann, often referred to as the "Ratman" is a character in both ''Portal'' and ''Portal 2''. He was a former scientist working at Aperture and one of the few who survived when GLaDOS flooded the facility with neurotoxin. In the two games there are various "Ratman dens", where Doug Rattmann has left scribblings and paintings on walls in hidden rooms. Ratman’s full appearance is only seen in ...

Wheatley (Portal)
Wheatley is a fictional artificial intelligence from the ''Portal'' franchise, first introduced in the 2011 video game ''Portal 2''. He is voiced by British comedian and writer Stephen Merchant, and created in part by ''Portal 2''s designer Erik Wolpaw. In the ''Portal'' narrative, Wheatley is one of several spherical "personality cores" developed to restrain GLaDOS, the main artificial intelligence that operates the Aperture Science facility, from becoming rampant, though Wheatley is later revealed to have been built to act as an intelligence dampener towards GLaDOS. Initially serving as a comedic foil to the player-character Chell during the first half of ''Portal 2'', Wheatley becomes the main antagonist of the second half as he takes GLaDOS's place and wreaks havoc on the facility before Chell and GLaDOS (whose consciousness is now trapped inside a potato battery) stop him. In addition to ''Portal 2'', Wheatley has appeared in ''Team Fortress 2'' and ''Lego Dimensions''. Si ...

Aperture Science Laboratories
The ''Half-Life'' video game series features many locations set in a dystopian future stemming from the events of the first game, ''Half-Life''. These locations are used and referred to throughout the series. The locations, for the most part, are designed and modeled from real-world equivalent locations in Eastern Europe, but also include science fiction settings including the Black Mesa Research Facility, a labyrinthine subterranean research complex, and Xen, an alien dimension. ''Half-Life'' and expansions Black Mesa Research Facility The Black Mesa Research Facility (shortened to B.M.R.F) is the primary setting for ''Half-Life'' and its three expansions: ''Opposing Force'', ''Blue Shift'', and ''Decay''. Chell (Portal)
Chell is the silent protagonist in the ''Portal'' video game series developed by Valve. She appears in both ''Portal'' and ''Portal 2'' as the main player character and as a supporting character in some other video games. Not much is known about Chell but some posit she is the daughter of an employee at Aperture Science Laboratories, the main setting of the games. Chell's face- and body-model were derived from those of Alésia Glidewell. She experienced a redesign in ''Portal 2'' which was often changed during development. For example, the original redesign featured a laboratory-hat. A character presented in first-person perspective, Chell can only be seen through reflections and portals in the game. Chell was generally well-received by critics and gamers, with many people praising that she does not speak and looks like a "normal-looking and normal-dressing woman" in contrast to many other female characters in first-person shooters. Development and design Valve's Erik Wolpaw f ...

Single-player
A single-player video game is a video game where input from only one player is expected throughout the course of the gaming session. A single-player game is usually a game that can only be played by one person, while "single-player mode" is usually a game mode designed to be played by a single player, though the game also contains multi-player modes. Most modern console games and arcade games are designed so that they can be played by a single player; although many of these games have modes that allow two or more players to play (not necessarily simultaneously), very few actually require more than one player for the game to be played. The ''Unreal Tournament'' series is one example of such. History The earliest video games, such as ''Tennis for Two'' (1958), ''Spacewar!'' (1962), and ''Pong'' (1972), were symmetrical games designed to be played by two players. Single-player games gained popularity only after this, with early titles such as ''Speed Race'' (1974) and ''Space Invade ...
