Pepa Martins De Abreu
Pepa Martins de Abreu (stage name, Pepita de Abreu) (1890 –1962) was a Portuguese actress, journalist, translator and writer. Early life Pepa Martins de Abreu Melo Vieira was born in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon on 6 July 1890. She was the daughter of EmÃlia de Abreu, also an actress. She became known in the artistic world as "Pepita de Abreu", making her debut at the Teatro da Rua dos Condes in Lisbon in 1905 and then performing at the '' Teatro PrÃncipe Real'' in Porto in 1907. She performed in several theatres in Lisbon and Porto and toured other locations, including the Azores Archipelago and Madeira. In 1909, she performed in the last variety show written by António de Sousa Bastos (1844-1911) and performed at the '' Teatro Avenida'' in Lisbon. Career Abreu went to Brazil in 1919 with the company of Maria Matos and stayed there until 1946. Teatro Da Rua Dos Condes
The ''Teatro da Rua dos Condes'', or simply ''Condes'', was a theatre in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon. It was opened in 1738 and rebuilt in 1755 after an earthquake. Never considered comfortable, it was demolished and rebuilt in 1888 and eventually converted to a cinema. After a further demolition and reconstruction as a purpose-built cinema, the building now houses a Hard Rock Café. For part of its life the ''Teatro da Rua dos Condes'' was one of Lisbon's major theatres, attracting the city's elite, including the royal family. However, with the construction of newer, more modern theatres it gradually moved from offering operas and legitimate theater to vaudeville and revues with more of a mass appeal. Teatro Sá Da Bandeira
The Teatro Sá da Bandeira is the oldest performance venue in the city of Porto, with a capacity for 786 people and opened in 1846, it was responsible for the first presentation of films produced in Portuguese (on 12 November 1896, by Aurélio Paz dos Reis), and was converted in the first years of its opening on stage to some of the 19th century theater biggest stars, such as Sarah Bernhardt, Julián Gayarre and Antonio Scalvini. ''Teatro da Avenida'', better known as ''Teatro Avenida'', was a theatre located at 150 to 156 Avenida da Liberdade in the city of Lisbon, Portugal, which operated from 1888 to 13 December 1967, when it was completely destroyed by fire. Following the 1755 Lisbon earthquake, the city was rebuilt under the instructions of Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, 1st Marquis of Pombal. The reconstruction included the development of a park, oriented south-east to north-west, known as the '' Passeio Público''. Maria Matos
Maria de Conceição de Matos Ferreira da Silva (29 September 1886 – 19 September 1952) was a Portuguese actress and theatre personality. Career Matos studied piano, singing and dramatic art at the Royal Conservatory of Lisbon, and for her final exam performed '' Rosas de Todo Ano'', written by Júlio Dantas. She debuted professionally at the Teatro Nacional D. Mary II in the play ''Judas'' (1907). She married in 1913 the actor Mendonça de Carvalho, who founded the theater company Maria Matos - Mendonça de Carvalho, a company that enjoyed considerable prestige in Portuguese theatre. In 1940, she was appointed at the Conservatório Nacional de Teatro, where she was head of Theatrical aesthetics and Vocal coaching. Her talent was particularly evident in the farce and the comedy. The ''Teatro Variedades'' was a theatre in Lisbon, capital of Portugal, that offered variety or revue shows of the type known in Portugal as ''Teatro de Revista''. Opened in 1926, it has not been used since 1992, but as of 2020 there were active plans to construct a new theatre on the site, incorporating elements of the existing building. The ''Teatro Variedades'' is located in the Parque Mayer in Lisbon, close to the Avenida da Liberdade.
