Pekka Salminen (basketball)
Pekka Salminen (born 11 August 1937 in Tampere) is a Finnish Professor of Architecture and founder and a senior partner of PES-Architects, formed in 1968, in Helsinki, Finland. He is also the founder of Unije Workshop International UWI, and the Centre for Architecture and Urban Planning, formed in Unije, Croatia, in 1987. He received a BSc in architecture from Tampere Institute of Technology in 1960, and an MSc in architecture from Helsinki University of Technology, 1966. At that time he was employed by notable Finnish architect Timo Penttilä and worked on the design of Penttilä's most notable work Helsinki City Theatre, completed in 1967. On Penttilä's death in 2011, Salminen wrote the chief obituary in the Finnish architectural press. Finns
Finns or Finnish people ( fi, suomalaiset, ) are a Baltic Finnic ethnic group native to Finland. Finns are traditionally divided into smaller regional groups that span several countries adjacent to Finland, both those who are native to these countries as well as those who have resettled. Some of these may be classified as separate ethnic groups, rather than subgroups of Finns. These include the Kvens and Forest Finns in Norway, the Tornedalians in Sweden, and the Ingrian Finns in Russia. SAFA (architecture)
SAFA ( fi, Suomen Arkkitehtiliitto, sv, Finlands Arkitektförbund, en, Finnish Association of Architects) is the professional body representing architects in Finland. Overview The Association SAFA is a non-profit, professional organization open to all architects with a university degree from a Finnish university or equivalent qualification from another country. SAFA has 2906 members (61% male and 39% female). This accounts for approx 80% of all Finnish architects with a university degree. Membership is voluntary, and is not a condition for practising in the profession. In Finland no registration is required. SAFA has also 743 student members. Fuzhou (; , Fuzhounese: Hokchew, ''Hók-ciŭ''), alternately romanized as Foochow, is the capital and one of the largest cities in Fujian province, China. Along with the many counties of Ningde, those of Fuzhou are considered to constitute the Mindong (lit. Eastern Fujian) linguistic and cultural area. Fuzhou lies on the north (left) bank of the estuary of Fujian's largest river, the Min River. All along its northern border lies Ningde, and Ningde's Gutian County lies upriver. The Police University College ( fi, Poliisiammattikorkeakoulu (Polamk), sv, Polisyrkeshögskolan) is a university of applied sciences in Tampere, Finland providing police academy training and research under the Ministry of the Interior for the Police of Finland and other Finnish law enforcement units. History The institute was established in 1918 as a temporary police training school by the Helsinki Police Department. It operated as the Police Academy in various parts of the Greater Helsinki area, such as Espoo and the Suomenlinna fortress, until 1974 when the Academy's Police Course Centre was transferred to Tampere. Lahti Ski Museum
Lahti Ski Museum is a sports museum located in Lahti, Finland, specialising in skiing and other winter sports. It is situated in the city's main sports complex adjacent to the Salpausselkä ski-jumping venue. History The museum traces its roots back to 1959, when the first exhibits were put on by the local winter sports club, ''Lahden Hiihtoseura'' (literally, 'Lahti skiing society'). The City of Lahti took over the activity in 1974, and the museum has formed part of the Lahti municipal museum since. The first purpose-built facility opened in 1989, designed by architect Esko Hämäläinen. The exterior of the building was redesigned in 2000 (shown in the picture) by Pekka Salminen, and the entire building underwent a renovation in 2017. The International Organisation of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians (OISTAT) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) founded in 1968 in Prague, Czech Republic.
