Peace TV (Thailand)
Peace TV is a Thai television channel, notable for its support for liberal democracy. It is affiliated with United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) It is broadcast via satellite television, cable, and web streaming. History Peace TV was launched on 10 December 2013 (Thai Constitution Day) as UDD TV (United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship Television) after UDD leaders who had hosted programs on Asia Update until that station canceled the show due to the Criticism of Amnesty Act. Until 20 May 2014 after the Army's martial law declaration during the 2013–2014 Thai political crisis UDD TV was forced to shut down along with other political TV channels until the 2014 Thai coup d'état. National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission invited closed political TV channels to register and make MOUs with NBTC. Liberalism In Thailand
Until 22 May 2014, the politics of Thailand were conducted within the framework of a constitutional monarchy, whereby the prime minister is the head of government and a hereditary monarch is head of state. The judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislative branches. Following the coup d'état of 22 May 2014 revoking the 2007 constitution, a military organization called National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) had taken over administration. The chief of NCPO abolished the national assembly and assumed the responsibilities of the legislative branch. National Council For Peace And Order
The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO; th, คณะรักษาความสงบแห่งชาติ; ; abbreviated ( th, คสช.; )) was the military junta that ruled Thailand between its 2014 Thai coup d'état on 22 May 2014 and 10 July 2019. On 20 May 2014, the military declared martial law nationwide in an attempt to stop the country's escalating political crisis, and to force the democratically elected government out of office. Thai Constitutional Referendum, 2016
A constitutional referendum was held in Thailand on 7 August 2016. The charter offered only semi-democracy and was seen to tighten military rule in Thailand. However, it was approved by 61% of voters with a 59% turnout. A second proposal for the next prime minister to be jointly elected by senators and MPs was also approved. However, the opposition groups to the constitution were barred from formally campaigning against it by the military government, while the military government actively campaigned for its adoption.
