Paul Karason
Paul Karason (November 14, 1950 – September 23, 2013) was an American from Bellingham, Washington whose skin was a purple-blue color. In 2008, Karason first gained prominence after appearing on ''Today''. His skin was described as turning blue after he took a homemade silver chloride colloid and rubbing a solution of colloidal silver on his face in an attempt to treat problems with his sinuses, dermatitis, acid reflux and other issues. He claimed it cured his acid reflux and arthritis. Karason was fair-skinned and freckled until about 1993, when his complexion began to develop the bluish hue associated with argyria. The condition was permanent. Karason moved from Oregon to the California Central Valley community Madera in the summer of 2007 seeking greater community acceptance. Blue Fugates
The Fugates, a family living in the hills of Kentucky starting in the 19th century, were commonly known as the "Blue Fugates" or the "Blue People of Kentucky". They are known for being carriers of a genetic trait that led to the blood disorder methemoglobinemia, causing the skin to appear blue. Ancestry Martin Fugate and Elizabeth Smith, ''Science 82'', November, 1982 who had married and settled near Hazard, Kentucky in around 1820, were both carriers of the recessive methemoglobinemia (met-H) gene. As a result, four of their seven children exhibited blue skin, and continued reproduction within the limited local gene pool ensured that many descendants of the Fugates were born with met-H.
