PauknAir
PauknAir, also known as Melilla Jet, was a Spanish regional airline which operated between 1995 and 1998. The airline operated flights between various Spanish domestic destinations. History PauknAir was founded in 1995 and commenced operations in September 1995 with two BAe 146 aircraft operated on its behalf by PAN Air. It was majority owned by Paukner SA, a Spanish company involved in the travel industry, with a 78% holding; private interests based in Melilla, a Spanish exclave in North Africa, held 20% of the company, with the remaining 2% held by the governing council of Melilla. The airline provided air services from Melilla to Madrid and Málaga. In November 1998, PauknAir ceased operations following the crash of PauknAir Flight 4101 on 25 September 1998. PauknAir Flight 4101
PauknAir Flight 4101 was a British Aerospace 146 that crashed on a flight from Málaga, Spain, to the Spanish North African exclave of Melilla on 25 September 1998. All 38 passengers and crew on board the aircraft were killed in the accident. The aircraft The aircraft, a British Aerospace 146 series 100 (BAe 146-100), made its first flight in 1983 and was the seventh BAe 146 built and was originally delivered to British Airways and it was transferred to Dan-Air London a year later. After the aircraft spent several years in storage, PauknAir took over the aircraft when the airline commenced operations in September 1995. Accident The aircraft took off from runway 14 at Malaga's Pablo Ruiz Picasso Airport at 8:23 AM Spanish time on 25 September 1998. On board were 34 passengers and a crew of four. Melilla Airport
Melilla Airport is an airport located in Melilla, an exclave of Spain in Africa. The airport is located about southwest of the city, near the border with Morocco. Between 1931 and 1967 Melilla was served by the Tauima Aerodrome (now the Nador International Airport), even when Morocco had gained its independence in 1956. This Spanish controlled airport did not open until 1969. History In the 1920s, several military aerodromes were built in area for the Air Arm of the Spanish Army: * Ramel - now in Morocco * Arcila - now in Morocco * Zeluan - now in Morocco Following the conflict between Spain and Morocco, a new military airfield was built near Cabrerizas Altas. The British Aerospace 146 (also BAe 146) is a short-haul and regional airliner that was manufactured in the United Kingdom by British Aerospace, later part of BAE Systems. Production ran from 1983 until 2001. Manufacture by Avro International Aerospace of an improved version known as the Avro RJ began in 1992. A further-improved version with new engines, the Avro RJX, was announced in 1997, but only two prototypes and one production aircraft were built before production ceased in 2001. ASL Airlines Spain, formerly PAN Air Líneas Aéreas S.A., was a cargo airline based at Madrid–Barajas International Airport, Spain.
