Oktavia Aigner-Rollett
Oktavia Aigner-Rollett (née Oktavia Auguste-Rollett; 23 May 1877, Graz — 22 May 1959, Ibid.) was an Austrian physician. She was one of the first women to receive a doctorate from the University of Graz, and was the first female doctor to work at the General Hospital. Life Oktavia Rollett was born on 23 May 1877 in Graz, Styria. She was the eldest daughter of the famous physiologist Alexander Rollett, and sister of the publicist Edwin Rollett. She was the first woman to graduate from Graz in 1900 as an external student at the First State High School in Graz (today's Akademisches Gymnasium). Her father Alexander Rollett, who was the rector of the University of Graz, however, was reluctant to allow her to study at the university. On December 9, 1905, she was given a doctorate in medicine in the auditorium of the new university. Graz (; sl, Gradec) is the capital city of the Austrian state of Styria and second-largest city in Austria after Vienna. Geidorf () is the 3rd district of the Austrian city of Graz. It is located north of the first two districts Innere Stadt (Graz), I. Innere Stadt and St. Leonhard, II. St. Leonhard. In the east it stretches as far as the Landeskrankenhaus Universitätsklinikum (provincial university hospital) and towards the west it borders the river Mur. As the main campus of the University of Graz is located in Geidorf, many students and professors live here. It had a population of 24,497 in January 2021 and covers an area of 5.5 square kilometres. The University of Graz (german: link=no, Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz, ), located in Graz, Austria, is the largest and oldest university in Styria, as well as the second-largest and second-oldest university in Austria. History The university was founded in 1585 by Archduke Charles II of Austria. The bull of 1 January 1586, published on 15 April 1586, was approved by Pope Sixtus V. For most of its existence it was controlled by the Catholic Church, and was closed in 1782 by Emperor Joseph II in an attempt to gain state control over educational institutions. Joseph II transformed it into a ''lyceum'', where civil servants and medical personnel were trained.
