Olena Shurkhno ( uk, Олена Шурхно, née Samko – ; born 8 January 1978) is a Ukraine, Ukrainian long-distance runner who specialises in the marathon. Her personal best for the distance of 2:23:32 hours is the Ukrainian records in athletics, Ukrainian record. She has won marathons in Baltimore, Tempe, Arizona and Nashville. Career Shurkhno started her career as a steeplechase (athletics), steeplechase specialist and competed at national level in the event until 2005. She set her personal best for the 3000 metres steeplechase of 10:19.19 minutes in 2004 and also timed 10:13.71 in a novel indoor track and field, indoor version of the event. It was only when she turned her running talents to the road running, road racing circuit in 2007 that her international career blossomed. Mulu Seboka Seyfu (born 25 September 1984) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner who competes mainly in marathons. She represented Ethiopia in the marathon at the 2005 World Championships in Athletics and in the half marathon at the 2006 IAAF World Road Running Championships. 2012 Berlin Marathon
The 2012 Berlin Marathon was the 39th edition of the annual marathon event and was held on Sunday 30 September on the streets of Berlin, Germany. An IAAF Gold Label Road Race, it was the third World Marathon Majors event to be held that year. Geoffrey Mutai won the men's race in a time of 2:04:15 hours and Aberu Kebede was the women's winner in 2:20:30. A total of 34,377 people (26472 men, 7905 women) finished the marathon race. Prior to the race, Mutai was the principal focus of men's competition and the head of an attempt to challenge Patrick Makau's world record set at the 2011 Berlin Marathon.
