San Diego Marathon
The Rock 'n' Roll San Diego Marathon is an annual marathon foot-race held in San Diego, California. Established in 1998, it is the original race in the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series. The 2006 marathon had 21,159 participants—17,339 of whom successfully finished the race. A half marathon race over was added to supplement the established full marathon race from the 2010 edition onwards. In 2013, Bernard Koech set the half marathon course record of 58:41. This was the fourth-fastest time ever for the event at the time, although the time did not meet official IAAF requirements as the course contained an excessive downhill. Joseph Ngolepus
Joseph Ngolepus (born 10 April 1975) is a Kenyan former marathon runner who won the 2001 Berlin Marathon, and finished third at the 2003 London Marathon. He also won the 2003 CPC Loop Den Haag half marathon, the 2004 Rock 'n' Roll San Diego Marathon, the 2006 Madrid Marathon, and the 2008 half marathon. Personal life Ngolepus comes from the same region of Kenya as Tegla Loroupe. He has four children. Career Ngolepus started training in 1997 alongside Tegla Loroupe. He ran his first marathon in 1999, in a time of 2:16. In 2000, he came fourth at the Rotterdam Marathon in a time of 2:08:49. Ngolepus entered the 2001 Berlin Marathon as a pacemaker for fellow Kenyans Willy Cheruiyot Kipkirui and William Kiplagat. After of the race, he decided to try and race for the victory instead. Osoro Ondoro
Ondoro Osoro (born 3 December 1967) is a former Kenyan long-distance runner who competed mostly in cross country and road races. In his early career he won a series of cross country races in Europe (taking the first IAAF World Cross Challenge title) and twice represented Kenya at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships. He also ran the 5000 metres on the track, competing at the World Championships in Athletics and winning a bronze medal at the 1991 All-Africa Games. He won the San Silvestre Vallecana 10 km road race three times during this period. A serious car accident in 1995 left him unable to compete for two years, but he returned to action with a world record for the run in late 1997. On his debut over the distance, he won the 1998 Chicago Marathon with a time of 2:06:54 hours, which ranked him as the third fastest ever at that point and was the fastest ever debut run for the marathon. Sammy Korir (born December 12, 1971) is a long distance runner from Kenya. Biography Korir was born in Kiboswa village, Nandi county of Rift Valley province, Kenya. In 2003 he finished second in Berlin Marathon with a time of 2:04:56, just one second after the winner of the race, Paul Tergat who broke the previous world record. In 2008 he became the first man to run ten marathons faster than the time of 2:09 hours, by finishing third in Dubai Marathon with a time of 2:08:01. John Kagwe
John Karunga Kagwe (born 9 January 1969) is a Kenyan former long-distance runner who had back-to-back wins at the New York City Marathon from 1997 to 1998. He set his lifetime best of 2:08:12 hours as part of his first victory there. Kagwe's professional road racing career began in 1994 and he continued to compete at a high level until 2006. After he turned forty and entered the veterans category, he returned to running, making some appearances in 2011. He also won the Prague International Marathon and the San Diego Marathon. Margaret Okayo
Margaret Okayo (born May 30, 1976 in Masaba, Kisii District) is a professional marathon runner from Kenya. She has won a number of major marathons, including the New York City Marathon (two times), the Boston Marathon, and the London Marathon. She has also won the San Diego Marathon on two occasions. Okayo started running while at primary school. She graduated from the ''Itierio Secondary School'', located near Kisii town, in 1993. She was recruited by Kenya Prisons Service, home to the country's top women's marathon runners, in 1995 where she nurtured her running career. Nadezhda Wijenberg (born Nadezhda Alexeevna Ilyina on 2 April 1964 in Kanash) is a long-distance runner from Russia, who got the Dutch nationality in 1999 by marrying her coach Ger Wijenberg from the Netherlands.
