Oceanic Airlines
Oceanic Airlines, and less frequently, Oceanic Airways, is the name of a fictional airline used in several films, television programs, and comic books—typically works that feature plane crashes and other aviation disasters, with which a real airline would prefer not to be associated. The brand is used prominently in the TV series '' Lost,'' where Oceanic Airlines is featured branded with a highly stylized logo depicting an Australian Aboriginal dot painting that resembles a nazar, a bullseye, an island, or an " O". The show's fictional storyline begins with the crash of an airline flight called Oceanic Flight 815. Airlines with this name have also been featured in other media, starting as early as the 1960s. Oceanic Languages
The approximately 450 Oceanic languages are a branch of the Austronesian languages. The area occupied by speakers of these languages includes Polynesia, as well as much of Melanesia and Micronesia. Though covering a vast area, Oceanic languages are spoken by only two million people. The largest individual Oceanic languages are Eastern Fijian with over 600,000 speakers, and Samoan with an estimated 400,000 speakers. The Gilbertese (Kiribati), Tongan, Tahitian, Māori, Western Fijian and Tolai ( Gazelle Peninsula) languages each have over 100,000 speakers. The common ancestor which is reconstructed for this group of languages is called Proto-Oceanic (abbr. "POc"). Oceanic were an English electronic dance music group, consisting of David Harry, Frank Crofts and singer Jorinde Williams. Biography The band were most famous for the dance hit song, "Insanity", which was released in 1991. This was the group's biggest commercial success, reaching No. 3 in the UK singles chart for three weeks and the ninth biggest-selling UK single of 1991. The track also made the Australian Top 40. Later that year they released the follow-up, "Wicked Love", which reached No. 25 in the UK singles chart. ''Oceanic'' is a 1996 studio album by Greek electronic composer Vangelis. It was released in Europe on October 25, 1996 by East West Records, and in the United States on January 28, 1997 by Atlantic Records. A single "Song of the Seas", with b-side "Aquatic Dance", was released simultaneously. Overview Vangelis was personally involved in the sleeve design, as he used to be in the late seventies and early eighties. At the end of the album inside liner notes there are references to the films '' Million Dollar Mermaid'' and ''Footlight Parade'', as the cover design features images taken from these two movies.
