Oceanic (Vangelis Album)
''Oceanic'' is a 1996 studio album by Greek electronic composer Vangelis. It was released in Europe on October 25, 1996 by East West Records, and in the United States on January 28, 1997 by Atlantic Records. A single "Song of the Seas", with b-side "Aquatic Dance", was released simultaneously. Overview Vangelis was personally involved in the sleeve design, as he used to be in the late seventies and early eighties. At the end of the album inside liner notes there are references to the films ''Million Dollar Mermaid'' and ''Footlight Parade'', as the cover design features images taken from these two movies. The music was used in the 1998 documentary ''Deep Sea, Deep Secrets'' co-produced by The Learning Channel and Discovery Channel, together with music from Vangelis' previous album, '' Voices''. Rimouski Oceanic
Rimouski ( ) is a city in Quebec, Canada. Rimouski is located in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region, at the mouth of the Rimouski River. It has a population of 48,935 (as of 2021). Rimouski is the site of Université du Québec à Rimouski (UQAR), the Cégep de Rimouski (which includes the Institut maritime du Québec) and the Music Conservatory. It is also the home of some ocean sciences research centres ( see below). History The city was founded by Sir René Lepage de Ste-Claire in 1696. Oceanic Feeling
In a 1927 letter to Sigmund Freud, Romain Rolland coined the phrase "oceanic feeling" to refer to "a sensation of 'eternity, a feeling of " being one with the external world as a whole", inspired by the example of Ramakrishna, among other mystics. According to Rolland, this feeling is the source of all the religious energy that permeates in various religious systems, and one may justifiably call oneself religious on the basis of this oceanic feeling alone, even if one renounces every belief and every illusion. Sunleif Rasmussen (born March 19, 1961 in Sandur in the Faroe Islands) is the foremost Faroese composer of classical music. Biography Rasmussen studied in Norway, then returned to Tórshavn in the Faroes as a music teacher and jazz pianist. From 1990 to 1995 he studied musical composition at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen under Ib Nørholm and electronic music under Ivar Frounberg. In 1992 he received grants from the Leonie Sonning Foundation and the Danish Composer's Society. He also became familiar with spectral music, which has its roots at the IRCAM in Paris, and the work of composers such as Tristan Murail. Emil Bulls is a German rock band that was formed in 1995 in Munich, Bavaria. The group consists of two guitarists, a bass guitar player, a drummer and a vocalist/guitarist.
