Nehemiah Ben Hushiel
Nehemiah ben Hushiel is thought to be a historical figure and leader of the Jewish revolt against Heraclius. He is noted in Jewish and Byzantine sources. Nehemiah ben Hushiel is best known as a figure who appears in many medieval Jewish apocalyptic writings; in these writings he is cast as the Messiah ben Joseph. Political Background In 590-591 CE, according to Karaite sources, the Exilarch Haninai was put to death by Khosrow II, for supporting Bahram VI. The next Exilarch (Haninais' son Bostanai) would not reign until around 640 CE. Bostanai would be the first Babylonian Exilarch under Arab rule. Heraclius ( grc-gre, Ἡράκλειος, Hērákleios; c. 575 – 11 February 641), was List of Byzantine emperors, Eastern Roman emperor from 610 to 641. Aaron's rod refers to any of the walking sticks carried by Moses's brother, Aaron, in the Torah.
