NuArt Festival
The NuArt Festival is an annual Street Art festival traditionally held in September, in Stavanger (Norway), since 2001. Many associated artworks can be found in Stavanger, at Utsira and in Oslo. Since 2017, there is also a NuArt Festival in Aberdeen, Scotland. The not for profit event is purely dedicated to street art, in all its forms. It is one of the oldest official "street art" festivals in the world and invites many national- and international artists. The pieces are permanent (and legal) installations in the city landscape. Nuart consists of a series of citywide exhibitions, events, performances, interventions, debates & workshops surrounding current trends and movements in street art. Nuart Plus is an associated industry and academic symposium dedicated to street art. Nuart RAD is an associated, local government initiated street-art project in Oslo. Street Art
Street art is visual art created in public locations for public visibility. It has been associated with the terms "independent art", "post-graffiti", "neo-graffiti" and guerrilla art. Street art has evolved from the early forms of defiant graffiti into a more commercial form of art, as one of the main differences now lies with the messaging. Street art is often meant to provoke thought rather than rejection among the general audience through making its purpose more evident than that of graffiti. The issue of permission has also come at the heart of street art, as graffiti is usually done illegally, whereas street art can nowadays be the product of an agreement or even sometimes a commission. However, it remains different from traditional art exposed in public spaces by its explicit use of said space in the conception phase. Stavanger
Stavanger (, , American English, US usually , ) is a city and municipalities of Norway, municipality in Norway. It is the fourth largest city and third largest metropolitan area in Norway (through conurbation with neighboring Sandnes) and the administrative center of Rogaland county. Utsira () is the smallest municipality in Norway. The island municipality is located in northwestern Rogaland county, just off the western coast of Norway. Utsira is part of the traditional district of Haugaland. The municipality consists of the main island of Utsira as well as several small, uninhabited outlying islands. Oslo
