Nordre Kirkegård
Nordre Cemetery (Northern Cemetery) is a cemetery in Aarhus, Denmark. It was established in 1876, east of Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital by ''Nørrebrogade''. Nordre Cemetery was established from the early 1870s to 1892 and was inaugurated in 1876. The cemetery replaced ''Søndre Kirkegård'' formerly located on the site of the present day city hall. The chapel is architecturally in Neo-Romanesque style and was inaugurated in 1880. The chapel was remodelled in 1909 and a crematorium was added in the basement in 1941. Nordre Cemetery has been expanded several times in 1891, 1892, 1899 and 1912. In 1920 it was decided to establish Vestre Kirkegård since Nordre Kirkegård was filling up and the new cemetery was inaugurated 7 years later. Enrico Mylius Dalgas, Peter Sabroe, Hans Broge and Herman Salling are interred in Nordre Kirkegård. Rudolf Frimodt Clausen
Rudolf Frimodt Clausen was a Danish architect born in Copenhagen on 29 June 1861 to the bishop Johannes Clausen and grandson of the theologian Henrik Nicolai Clausen. Between 1886 and 1888 Frimodt Clausen worked as conductor for Vilhelm Theodor Walther. Later Frimodt Clausen worked a great deal in Aarhus as an architect. In 1891 he became architect for Aarhus Oliefabrik where he continued to work for the rest of his life. He designed the Ceres Brewery, the buildings in ''Guldsmedgade'' 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9, ''Store Torv'' 7 and the corner buildings on St. Paul's Church Square. In Frimodt Clausen's work can be seen inspiration from Anton Rosen in the early 1900s. Like other architects during this period he made buildings in both the National Romantic and Neoclassical style. Svend Unmack Larsen
Svend Unmack Larsen (23 September 1893, in Aarhus – 23 March 1965) was a Danish politician for the Social Democratic Party who served as Denmark's Minister of Justice (1939–1940) and was the mayor of Aarhus, Denmark for 13 years (1945–1958). Early life Larsen was born in Aarhus on 23 September 1893, the son of L.M. Larsen and Thyra Vilhelmine Unmack. His father was the director of the city's poorhouse and Larsen was raised there. Larsen said that his childhood among the poor was "this mixture of tragedy and baroque, macabre comedy" and gave him an understanding of social problems and the dark sides of society. Ferdinand Salling
Ferdinand Christian Salling (10 May 1880 – 22 June 1953) was a Danish merchant and entrepreneur who founded one of the largest warehouse chains and companies in Denmark. Ferdinand Salling founded the Salling warehouse chain and the company that would later own most of Dansk Supermarked. Hans Christian Salling married Karen Marie Jensen (1838–1919) on 30 July 1918 and the couple had the son Herman Salling. Ferdinand Salling's parents were Hans Christian Salling (1841–1923) and Karen Marie Jensen (1838–1919). Hans Peter Ingerslev
Hans Peter Ingerslev (3 May 1831 – 20 April 1896) was a Danish politician and minister. He was born in 1831 on Marselisborg Manor in Aarhus, owned by his parents Caspar Peder Rothe Ingerslev and Marie Meulengracht. Hans Peter Ingerslev graduated from the Cathedral School in Aarhus in 1849 and in 1864 he inherited Marselisborg Manor from his father. He was president of Viby parish council between 1865 and 1874 and member of Aarhus County council between 1865 and 1885. In 1873, Ingerslev was elected to the Danish Folketing for Højre, a predecessor for the Conservative People's Party, and he served for two terms; from 1873 to 1876 and from 1879 to 1884. From 1884 to his death, Ingerslev served in the Landsting. From 1885 to 1896 he was Minister of the Interior. Julius Høegh-Guldberg
Julius Høgh-Guldberg (4 April 1779 – November 1861) was a Danish officer, commissioner and politician. He had a long and prominent military career until he retired in 1832 at the rank of colonel. He settled in Aarhus where he became a member of the city council. He was extensively involved in social issues and advocacy. He was awarded both the Order of the Dannebrog and the Knights of the Order of the Dannebrog before he died in 1861. Carl Hammerich
Carl Hammerich (25 April 1888 – 21 March 1945) was a Danish naval officer and Admiral. Hammerich was born in Aarhus, Denmark. He was the son of Louis Hammerich (1859–1931) and Eleonora Liisberg (1866–1961). In 1921, he was married to Borghild Hammerich. He started as a naval cadet in the Royal Danish Naval Academy during 1904 and was promoted to Second Lieutenant in 1908. In 1940, he was appointed to Rear Admiral. During World War II he participated in the Danish humanitarian aid to Norway, and was involved in the process leading to the White Buses operation. Hammerich was arrested by German officials and died when the Royal Air Force bombed the Gestapo building in Copenhagen on 21 March 1945 (Operation Carthage Operation Carthage, on 21 March 1945, was a British air raid on Copenhagen, Denmark during the Second World War which killed 145 civilians. Herman Salling
Herman Christian Salling (born 20 November 1919 in Aarhus; died 8 May 2006) was a Danish merchant and director. He was a pioneer in the department store and retail business in Denmark. Herman Salling was the son of local merchant Ferdinand Salling (1880 - 1953) who founded the Salling department store in 1906 in Aarhus. Herman inherited and became director of the Salling department store in 1953. He evolved the business and also started føtex in 1960, the first real supermarket in Denmark. With Danish shipping businessman A.P. Møller, he founded Dansk Supermarked A/S in 1964.
