Niviarsiat, NE Greenland
Niviarsiat is a mountain in King Christian X Land, Northeast Greenland. Administratively it is part of the Northeast Greenland National Park zone. Geography This mountain rises at the NE end of Suess Land in a bend of the Antarctic Sound, a southern branch of Kaiser Franz Joseph Fjord. Suess Land
Suess Land is a peninsula in King Christian X Land, East Greenland. Administratively it is part of the Northeast Greenland National Park. History This peninsula was named by A.G. Nathorst after Austrian geologist Eduard Suess (1831–1914) at the time of his 1899 venture searching for traces of the lost Andrée expedition. Nathorst had previously translated a book by Eduard Suess into Swedish. Geography Suess Land has a mountainous, Alpine terrain. King Christian X Land
King Christian X Land ( da, Kong Christian X Land) is an area of northeastern Greenland. History This area was named after King Christian X of Denmark and Iceland (1870 – 1947), who rose to the throne in 1912. At the time of the Three-year Expedition to East Greenland it is reported that when Lauge Koch was planning to fly over the region in 1932 he said: The name 'King Christian X Land' was first used on the 1932 1:1 million scale Danish Geodesic Institute map. At that time the area was occupied by Norway and was renamed 'Erik the Red's Land' ''(Eirik Raudes Land)'' but the Permanent Court of International Justice ruled against Norway in 1933 and the country subsequently abandoned its claims. Kaiser Franz Joseph Fjord
Kaiser Franz Joseph Fjord ( da, Kejser Franz Josef Fjord; kl, Kangerluk Kejser Franz Joseph) is a major fjord system in the NE Greenland National Park area, East Greenland. Geography The Kaiser Franz Joseph Fjord has its mouth in the Foster Bay of the Greenland Sea, between Cape Mackenzie at the eastern end of Geographical Society Island and Cape Franklin, the southern end of the mainland's Gauss Peninsula; Bontekoe Island lies in the bay off its mouth. Lauge Koch
Lauge Koch (5 July 1892 – 5 June 1964) was a Danish geologist and Arctic explorer. Biography Lauge Koch was born in 1892 to Karl and Elisabeth Koch. His development as a scientist was greatly influenced by his father's second cousin Johan Peter Koch - a polar explorer, a member of several Greenland expeditions, including Ludvig Mylius-Erichsen's and Alfred Wegener's (in the latter's expedition (1912-1913) to cross Greenland, he led a sledging party). He received his higher education at the University of Copenhagen, where he began his studies in 1911, in 1920 he received a master's degree, and in 1929 a doctor's degree, having defended a dissertation on the topic "Stratigraphy of Greenland".
