Suess Land
Suess Land is a peninsula in King Christian X Land, East Greenland. Administratively it is part of the Northeast Greenland National Park. History This peninsula was named by A.G. Nathorst after Austrian geologist Eduard Suess (1831–1914) at the time of his 1899 venture searching for traces of the lost Andrée expedition. Nathorst had previously translated a book by Eduard Suess into Swedish. Geography Suess Land has a mountainous, Alpine terrain. Petermann Peak
Petermann Peak, ( da, Petermann Bjerg), also known as ''Petermann Fjeld'', ''Petermanns Topp'' and ''Petermann Point'' is a mountain in King Christian X Land, Northeast Greenland. Administratively it is part of the Northeast Greenland National Park zone. The area around Petermann Peak is uninhabited. This mountain is located in the high Arctic zone, where Polar climate prevails. The average annual temperature in the area is −16 °C. The warmest month is June, when the average temperature rises to −2 °C, and the coldest is January, with −22 °C. Geography Petermann Peak rises to a height of on a nunatak located the northern side of the Nordenskiöld Glacier, in western Fraenkel Land in the inner Kaiser Franz Joseph Fjord. Alfred Gabriel Nathorst
Alfred Gabriel Nathorst (7 November 1850 – 20 January 1921) was a Swedish Arctic explorer, geologist, and palaeobotanist. Life He was born in Väderbrunn in Sweden. Nathorst's interest in geology was awoken by Charles Lyell’s ‘’Principles of Geology‘’ and, at the age of 21, Nathorst visited Charles Lyell, Lyell in England in 1872. Nathorst was employed at the Geological Survey of Sweden in 1873-84. He was then appointed professor, by royal decree on the 5 December 1884, and was simultaneously made curator of the new “Department of Archegoniates and Fossil Plants" at the Swedish Museum of Natural History. He remained on the post until his retirement in 1917. Nathorst visited Spitsbergen in 1870 and participated in 1882–83 in the ''2nd Dickson Expedition'' ("Den andra Dicksonska Expeditionen till Grönland") led by Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld. King Oscar Fjord
King Oscar Fjord ( da, Kong Oscar Fjord) is a fjord in East Greenland, marking the northern border of the Scoresby Land Peninsula. It was named by A.G. Nathorst on his 1899 expedition as ''Konung Oscars Fjord'' for Oscar II, King of Sweden from 1872 to 1907 and of Norway from 1872 until 1905. Gletscherland
Gletscherland, meaning "Glacier Land", is a peninsula in King Christian X Land, East Greenland. Administratively it is part of the Northeast Greenland National Park. History This peninsula was named during the Three-year Expedition to East Greenland owing to it being largely glaciated. The name "Canton Land" has also been used.
