Nigel Iggo
Nigel Iggo is an international field hockey umpire, from Canterbury, New Zealand. He is on the International Hockey Federation (FIH) World Development Panel, for upgrading to the World Panel. Umpiring achievements Iggo was named New Zealand's 2006 Male Umpire of the Year, and the 2006 NHL (National Hockey League) Most Valuable Umpire. Iggo was appointed to the 2006 Men's Hockey World Cup Qualifier, held in Changzhou, China. Iggo also attended the 2005 Junior World Cup, held in Rotterdam Rotterdam ( , , , lit. Field Hockey
Field hockey is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Teams must drive a round hockey ball by hitting it with a hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, synthetic field, or indoor boarded surface. The stick is made of wood, carbon fibre, fibreglass, or a combination of carbon fibre and fibreglass in different quantities. The stick has two sides; one rounded and one flat; only the flat face of the stick is allowed to progress the ball. During play, goalkeepers are the only players allowed to touch the ball with any part of their body. A player's hand is considered part of the stick if holding the stick. Umpire (field Hockey)
An umpire in field hockey is a person with the authority to make decisions on a hockey pitch in accordance with the rules of the game. Each match is controlled by two such umpires. In theory they are responsible for decisions taken on their respective half of the field, but practically they 'control' on either diagonal half of the field. In many higher-level events, a ''reserve umpire'' is appointed in addition to the two ''field umpires'' to act as a back-up in the event of injury or other issue preventing a field umpire from commencing or continuing a match. In World-Level competitions, a ''video umpire'' is also appointed in addition to the field and reserve umpires. 2006 Men's Hockey World Cup Qualifier
The 2006 Men's Intercontinental Cup was a qualifier for the 2006 Men's Hockey World Cup. It was held between 12 and 23 April 2006 in Changzhou, China. New Zealand won the tournament after defeating Korea 4–1 in the final. Alongside England, Pakistan and Japan, these five teams qualified for the World Cup. Qualification All five confederations received quotas for teams to participate allocated by the International Hockey Federation based upon the FIH World Rankings. Those teams participated at their respective continental championships but could not qualify through it, and they received the chance to qualify through this tournament based on the final ranking at each competition.
